She was born to Arlene (Sylvester) and Russell Kydd on May 16, 1944. While she lived in Natick, MA, through elementary school, she always considered Deer Isle her home, first spending time here in the summer with her mother's family at Edgewood Farm, and then year-round when her family moved to Deer Isle in 1955. Carol met her to-be husband, Dick Bridges, while skating on Ames Pond in Stonington in 1961. They married in 1965 and built a house together in Sunset, where they raised their two daughters, Ellen and Kate. Carol attended junior high and high school in Deer Isle and went on to study business at Husson College in Bangor. She was an avid reader and life-long learner, enjoying local adult education classes and seminars, where among many things, she learned basket-weaving and calligraphy, both of which she continued to practice for years. In 1980, she unleashed her passion for photography after attending Maine Media Workshops in Rockport. Behind the camera is where she most loved to be and was most often seen thereafter, photographing island sports, weddings, graduations, and many other local events, often giving her captured images to those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to document their cherished life events. Her professional life began at the telephone company in Ellsworth then moved into work on Deer Isle with the Island Advantages, Union Trust Bank, Bar Harbor Bank, and finally at Shepard's Real Estate, where she spent nearly 20 years helping people find homes on the peninsula - a job she loved. Outside of work, Carol donated her time with many local organizations and community efforts, including volunteering for the Memorial Ambulance Corp, Deer Isle Historical Society, Island Heritage Trust, Island Workforce Housing, Sunset Village Green, and Maine Fisheries Alliance. She was also an active member at the Deer Isle-Sunset Congregational Church. Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard Bridges; her daughters, Ellen Bridges and Kate Bridges; brother and sister-in-law, Loring and Claudette Kydd; brother, Richard Kydd; grandchildren, Tyler Cousins, Lybra Cousins, Madigan Smith, Gabriel Smith, Lillian Maeve Delaney, and Isla Delaney; and great-grandchildren, Macie McErlain, Molly McErlain, Charleston Cousins, and Lucy Hancock. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Arlene and Russell Kydd; and brother, Douglas Kydd."

[20136] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 17 April 1963, p. 9: "Orland - Mrs. Rose L. Hutchins, 85, died suddenly Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fulton Billings, at Bucksport. She was born at Penobscot May 30, 1877, daughter of Fred and Ella (Hutchins) Snowman. She was the widow of Arthur Hutchins. Survivors are one son, Arthur Hutchins of Orland, two daughters, Mrs. Una Wardwell of Orland and Mrs. Elizabeth Billings of Bucksport; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins."
