He profited from the weakness of the Byzantine emperors and the Arab caliphs and set himself up as hereditary prince in Iberia. He was sent a crown by the Caliph and recognized as shahnshah, king of kings of the Armenians, and Basil I, emperor of Byzantians, made haste to do the same in 885. 1st King of Armenia in the Caliphate, Transcaucasia, between 885 and 890. He was heir apparent to the Earldom of Ulster, he married (as her first husband) in Waltham Abbey, Essex, on September 30, 1308, Elizabeth de Clare, sister of Earl of Gloucester and Hertford. She was the founder of Clare College, Cambridge, and a granddaughter of King Edward I of England. Gloucester in turn married John's sister Matilda. John and Elizabeth had one son: William Donn de Burgh, 3rd Earl of Ulster (1312-1333). However, he was murdered in Galway by his own retainers the next year, leaving his infant son William heir apparent to the Earldom."

Harper Sr., born February 11, 1948, peacefully died surrounded by his loving wife and daughters on January 25, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was the youngest son of Cecilia Louise (Edgecomb) and Linwood Robert Earl Harper. He grew up in Howland and attended Howland High School in the 1960s. He worked running Kelly's Pool Hall as a young man, and worked at the Pine Tree Tannery, South Branch Lumber, Mead Paper Company in Massaschusetts, and Sargents. On June 17, 1967, he married the love of his life, Lenora E. (Jones) Harper. The couple had three children, lived a life full of love and dedication to their family together for 57 years. He worked for Cianbro for over three years, then the forestry industry for more than 30 years as a heavy equipment operator and was hand picked for his skills to do select tree cutting for the University of Maine. He loved to fish, hunt, play pool, cribbage and poker, read western books, watch western and action movies, spending time with family, and chatting with friends downtown. For more than 40 years he was a master mason with the Piscatatquis Lodge #0044. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kimberly Whitten and Hal of Enfield, and Renee Batchelder and Kendall of West Enfield; grandchildren, Kyle Batchelder, Katie Crocker and Brendan, Kirstin Sleeper and Dakota, Alissa Nickerson and Adam, Kristofer Milner and Emily, Nicholas Milner and Delany, and Carter Milner; great-grandchildren, Landon and Hazel; a sister, Elizabeth Ireland of Howland; brother, Larry Harper Sr. of Enfield; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Steve Hallett. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Kenneth L. Harper Jr.; sisters, Joan Pelkey and Theresa and Earlene Harper; brothers, Albert Harper Sr., George Harper Sr., Donald Harper Sr., Harold Harper Sr., and Linwoood and Earl Harper; two nephews; two nieces; a great-niece; and a great-nephew."
