Self-employed as a carpenter, he was a member of Keystone District Council United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, the Williamstown Methodist church, Williamstown Liberty Hose Co. No. 1, and Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, of Tower City. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary E. Haller, a son Ronald of Lebanon; one grandchild; his parents of Williamstown, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Smeltz, Mrs. Dorothy Zerby, both of Highspire; Mrs. Jennie Sanders of Sunbury; Mrs. Laura Deibler of Lykens; Charles Geist of Muir and John Geist of Paxtang. Funeral services were held on Monday morning from Lyons Funeral Home, Williamstown. Interment was made in the Methodist cemetery, Williamstown. The Rev. E. Leroy Eberhart officiated."

"The Boston Globe, 12 April 1922," p. 17: "Stoughton, April 12 - George W. Pratt yesterday unanimously elected department senior vice commander of the Massachusetts G. A. R., today was busy receiving the congratulations of his fellow townsmen. George W. Pratt was born in Chelsea. July 10, 1843, a descendant of Phinehas Pratt, who came to Plymouth, Mass. from England in 1622. He was educated in the public schools of Chelsea and later attended the Commercial Academy of New York. On May 26, 1868, he was married to Miss Clara Isabel Pierce of Boston, who died about a month ago. Mr Pratt is the father of 13 children, 12 of whom are living. They are Miss Ida Belle Pratt, Eugene Forest Pratt, Walter George Pratt, Albert William Pratt, Mrs. Frederick Oxton of Chelsea, Oscar Everett Pratt, Mrs. Fred C. Phillips, Mrs Maurice L. Burtt, Mrs. Cora Lillian Pratt, Mrs Henry Lauthold of Milton, Harold Lester Pratt, and Miss Grace Marion Pratt. He also has 12 grandchildren. Mr Pratt enlisted in the Civil War on Sept 1, 1S62, when 19 years of age, in Co H. Bd Massachusetts Infantry. He fought in many battles, including Kingston, Whitehall and Goldsboro, N C. After his enlistment expired and his regiment was on its way home through Maryland, he with 27 others of his company, volunteered to join the troops to intercept Gen. Lee on his retreat from Pennsylvania after the battle of Gettysburg, and was at Sandy Hook and Harper's Ferry until Lee returned to Virginia. He was mustered out July 30, 1863. He later served in the Massachusetts State Militia. He lived in Chelsea after the war until 1878, where he was engaged in building and in the care of his father's property and business until the later's death in 1900. He came to this town from Chelsea In 1878 and joined A. St John Chambre Post 72, G. A. R., May I, 1883, being transferred from Post 35 of Chelsea. Since that time he has served the post as commander in 1885 and 1889 and five years as adjutant, which position he now holds. He was elected Selectman, assessor and overseer of the poor in March, 1903, which position he held continuously until this year, when the town manager form of government came into being, and was appointed to the office of assessor for the ensuing year by the present Selectmen. He has been a member of the Fire Engineers for the past seven years. During the World War he was a leader in looking after the interest of the Stoughton boys. He has been a lifelong Republican and has been secretary of the Republican Town Committee since January, 1903. He is colonel of Gen Nelson A. Miles Command 25, U. V. U.. of Brockton and this town. He is commander of the Department of Massachusetts U. V. U. Mr Pratt is a member of Rising Star Dodge. A. F. & A. M.; the Stoughton Historical Society, a director of the Stoughton Visiting Nurse Association and the Congregational Church and Men's Club."
