Richard was apparently under age 18 when his father drew his will in 1765. A Richard Ridgely married 30 Sept 1782 in the Lutheran Church at Frederick, Maryland to Rebecca Templin; Sarah Ridgely and son Jacob witnessed the marriage. A Richard Ridgely had stray livestock in Frederick County 14 Dec 1775 per "Early Lists of Frederick Countians...," F. Edward Wright (Silver Spring, MD: Family Line Publications, 1986), p. 16; "Frederick, Maryland Lutheran Marriages and Burials, 1743-1811," Frederick S. Weiser. His will was made 27 Oct 1797 and probated 13 June 1800 in Frederick Co. Rebecca Templin is dau. of Samuel Templin and wife Hannah and sister of Sarah Templin, q.v. - but the Richard Ridgely who m. in 1782 may be another person. Who is the Richard Ridgely who, according to "Revolutionary Patriots of Prince George's County, 1775-1783", Henry C. Peden, Jr. (Westminster, MD: Family Line Publications, 1997), p. 253, "In the County Court in August, 1778, ...took the Oath of Allegiance at the same time he took the oath to become a practicing attorney at law in Prince George's County." Children of Richard and Rebecca are from the LDS Church's unverified Ancestral File Z5LC-WC, but there appears to be at least one mistake - two Sarahs.
"Anne Arundel Gentry, Vol. 3," Harry Wright Newman (Lord Baltimore Press, 1933), p. 157: "On September 27, 1791, Richard Ridgely of Frederick County purchased from his sister and brother-in-law, Henry Hill and Alice his wife of Newberry County, South Carolina, his sister's share in the parental plantation 'Ridgely's Delight' of 215 acres in accordance with the will of their father, Westall Ridgely, which reverted to the heirs after the death of their mother, Sarah Ridgely, which occured on December 11, 1789." See also op. cit., p. 169.
A biography in Find A Grave lists a Richard Ridgely, b. 3 Aug 1755 in Anne Arundel Co., MD, d. 25 Feb 1824 in Howard Co., MD, buried in Dorsey Cemetery, Howard Co., and offers: "Continental Congressman. After attending St. John's College in Annapolis, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1780. He established a practice in Baltimore. He was a Continental Congressman in 1784 and 1785 and later served in the Maryland state senate from 1786 to 1791. He later returned to his law practice in Baltimore. His estate in Howard County, Maryland, Dorsey Hall, was inherited from his wife's family." "Revolutionary Patriots of Anne Arundel County, Maryland," Henry C. Peden, Jr.Henry C. Peden, Jr. (Heritage Books, 2006) states this Richard Ridgely is son of Greenbury Ridgely and Lucy Stringer, and that he m. in 1778 Elizabeth Dorsey. Their children are listed and do not coincide with those shown for Richard and Rebecca.
