He was born on November 21, 1937 on Beals Island, Maine where he grew up, graduated from Beals High School in 1956 and later in life graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Maine at Machias in 1985. He was a lobster fisherman for many years and most recently retired from the University of Maine at Machias. He served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 60 years - Sarah Beal, son - Lewis Beal Jr., grandsons - Michael Beal and Austin Beal, brother and sister-in-law - Bernard and Ann Beal, sister-in-law - Mary Beal, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father - Elihu Beal II, mother - Laura (Backman) Beal, sister, and brother in law - Alverna and Donald Williams, brother in law and sister in law - Clayton and Francis Beal, and brother in law - William Beal. He was a member of the Church of the Lamb of God, and he was a member of the following organizations: Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of the Veterans Reserve, The Order of the Founders and Patriots of America, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post # 108, and the National Rifle Association. In his retirement years, he enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his wife Sarah, spending time with his family at their camp, and fishing with his grandson Michael."
