History - Samuel Kirkpatrick was born January 8, 1767, in Newton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. His father was James Kirkpatrick and his mother was Martha McElhenny, the second wife of James Kirkpatrick.
Samuel became an orphan after the death of his father in 1778, and he asked the courts to reappoint a guardian other than his mother, Martha Kirkpatrick, who wanted to indenture him at that time. The courts allowed James McKee of Lurgan Township to be his guardian until young Samuel reached his majority.
The Big Spring Presbyterian Church organized in 1737 was the church where the Kirkpatrick, McElhenny, and Weir families all worshiped. On April 5, 1791, Samuel was united in marriage to Ruth Weir in Middle Spring, Pennsylvania. Records from the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church indicate the service was held at another location other than the church. Speculation is that the service may have been held in the home of Ruth's Father, Abraham Weir of Lurgan Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. (Will Book B for 1816, Case 3944.)
Samuel and family along with Samuel's brother, Benjamin and his family all migrated and settled on farmland north of Chillicothe, Ohio around 1798. Samuel at his death on November 11, 1826, owned farms and lots in and near Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.
The record office in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio, VMS Survey Book, page 80, "We find Samuel and Benjamin Kirkpatrick chain carriers in a survey for Duncan McArthur." The survey for 300 acres of land, part of military warrant number 4993 on the waters of Deer Creek in the year 1803, was a survey number 4109. Samuel and Benjamin and all their families may have been living on this land at the time and intended to buy it.
Samuel and Ruth Weir Kirkpatrick were the parents of eight children: James, Abraham, George Washington, Jane, Ruth (Patsy), Samuel, Benjamin, and Polly.
Samuel and Ruth Kirkpatrick are resting alongside one another on the Kirkpatrick family farm in Ross County, Ohio. The graves of Ruth and Samuel are unmarked.

"Freeport Journal-Standard [Freeport, Illinois], 7 Februay 1938," p. 14: "Oscar Young Ritzman, 67, a resident of Freeport for many years, passed away at his home, 817 South West avenue, at 8:10 o'clock Sunday night after an illness of eight months. Funeral services will be conducted at the Walker mortuary, West Main street, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Aubrey White, pastor of First Baptist church, of which Mr. Ritzman was a member, will conduct the services. Friends may view the body at the mortuary. Mr. Ritzman was born at La Crosse, Wis., July 10, 1870, the son of Charles and Malvina Young Ritzman. He was united in marriage March 30, 1893, to Ella M. Ebersol. The family resided on South Hancock avenue for 37 years and recently moved to the South West avenue address. Mr. Ritzmau was a painter by trade having been employed by the W. T. Rawleigh company for the past ten years. He leaves his wife and the following children, Mrs. Ruth George, Mrs. Geraldine Weaver, Freeport: Harry Ritzman, Peoria. There are also five grandchildren. One brother, Edward Ritzman, resides at Rockford and a sister, Mrs. Emma Brown, resides in Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank Ritzman, and a sister. Mrs William Wade."

[1229] Like his father, Thomas Tupper, Jr. was a missionary to the American Indians and served the Church at Herring Pond, 1676-1706. He was a member of the Council of War, town clerk, selectman for 14 years, Deputy to the General Court 8 years, and is buried under a stone standing by the pond in the old burying ground at Sandwich, Mass. With his father, he is listed as one of the largest landowners in the town. He was Lt. of the military company at Sandwich in 1680, and became Capt. in 1690. "History of Tilton Family in America," F.T.Tilton, p. 153, states he and Martha "were the ancestors of Sir Charles Tupper, Prime Minister of Canada." Franklin Whittlesey Tupper, "Thomas Tupper Descendants," p. 18: "The last will and testament of Captain Thomas Tupper was executed 22 April 1706, four days before he died, and offered for probate 20 May of that year. His large land holdings were disposed of most specifically. The 'Dwelling House' in which he was born, lived and died was devised to his son Eliakim, 'after the decease of Martha, my wife.' To his eldest son Thomas he left "my silver bowl after my wife's decease and my kain." He made full provision for his wife and youngest daughter.' Also see New England Historic Genealogical Register article in 1945 on the Tuppers. Glen C. Bodie's web site (op. cit.) states: "Thomas Tupper, Jr. only child of Thomas Tupper and his third wife, Anne Hodgson, became one of the prominent citizens of Sandwich, and was made a freeman at the age of twenty in 1658. He served the town of Sandwich in various positions. He was a juryman in 1664, an exciseman in 1667 and town constable to 1669. From 1675 to 1685 he was the town clerk, and served as a selectman for fourteen years. He was a deputy to the General Court at Plymouth for eleven years and a representative to the court in Boston. He was a member of the Council of War and in 1680 he was commissioned a lieutenant in the military company of Sandwich, and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1690. He had strong religious convictions and, like his father, was a missionary among the Indians of the Mashpee and Herring Pond tribes from 1676-1706."
