He was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Sherman, the son of John and Pearle (Clockedile) Elwell. He attended Sherman Station Grammar School and graduated from Sherman High School in 1946, Maine Technical Vocational School in 1951 and Husson College in 1958. Bob was in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War. Bob worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Agency in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Maryland; and Giant Food Stores and Nationwide Insurance in Maryland prior to his retirement. He was a member of Patronage of the Mother of God Church, Arbutus, Md. He will be missed by his wife of 47 years, Ann Marie (Kuchta) of Annapolis, Md.; three sons, Robert Jr. and Lee Ann of San Diego, Raymond and Cheryl of Orlando, Fla., and Ryan of Crofton, Md.; six grandchildren, Tyler and Matthew Elwell of San Diego, Kathleen, Michael, Bradley and Patrick Elwell of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Keith and Marion Elwell of Vassalboro and John Patrick and Pamela of Smithfield; two sisters, Anita and Sam Mountain of Lakeland, Fla., and Marilyn Somers of Patten; two aunts, Angeline Strait and Roxie Elwell of Sherman; several nieces, nephews and cousins. When he was 28, He married Hannah Higley,daughter of Brewster Higley and Esther Hester Holcombe, in 1735 in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Elijah Owen Sr. and Hannah Higley-Owen, resided in or near Simsbury, Connecticut. They later moved to Granby, including the present town of East Granby. Eliakim was selectman at Sandwich for 12 years and served on the committee "to supply the pulpit" in 1722. He owned much land and was a "shopkeeper". He did not agree with the doctrine preached in the congregation, and on 13 April 1732 was one of two contractors who built a new meeting house for the opponents of the established minister.
