[43148] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 18 December 1922," p. 15: "From the Castine correspondent: All were greatly shocked to learn on Wednesday night of the sudden death of one of its most respected citizens, Capt. Augustus Coombs. Capt. Coombs left his home in the evening as usual to look after the fires at the Wooley cottage which he had in charge, being gone a little longer than usual. His wife went down to the cottage finding him in the cellar in front of the furnace, dead. Capt. Coombs was a most devoted husband and father and a very kind neighbor and friend. His sudden departure seems almost unbearable to the family and we know that words mean very little in this great trouble but we all wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to them all. He leaves besides his wife one daughter, Mrs. Harry Wardwell; one son, William Coombs; one sister, Mrs. Marla Perkins of California; one brother, Edward Coombs of Castine; three grandchlldren and many relatives."

[23031] Sarah m.12 July 1822 in PA Samuel Lewis.
[17577] The unverified Ancestral File states that Thomas is son of Robert Holmes and wife Jane. "Old Kittery and Her Families," Everett S. Stackpole (Lewiston, ME: Lewiston Journal Co., 1903), p. 536: "Thomas Holmes married Joanna, dau. of William Freathy of York and received land of his father-in-law in 1671. He then had children. He was of Dover in 1675 and bought land in Berwisk in 1676. His house was a garrison. It was burned by Indians in 1689. Administration of his estate was granted to widow Joanna 23 Feb. 1690/91." Note: the birthdates of Thomas and children sown here present a problem - further research is needed.
