[56230] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 2 April 2011: "Bangor - Richard G. 'Dick' Birmingham, 83, died peacefully March 27, 2011, in Bangor. He was born May 12, 1927, in Patten, the son of Freeland and Leola (Asher) Birmingham. Dick was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from age 15 to 18 aboard the USS Chilton. He was a member of Bricklayers Union Local No. 7, and worked on many buildings in the Bangor area including the tallest buildings, hospitals, the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building, the first malls and the Bangor International Airport runway. He also worked for Grant's Dairy, about which he often reminisced. Dick loved to watch the Red Sox and his grandchildren's games. He enjoyed driving his little red truck around town and visiting family and friends along the way. He was always willing to lend a hand, give a ride or share his candy. He was predeceased by a son, Richard C. Birmingham; and a sister, Marguerite Cole. Surviving are his eight girls and one son, Bonnie and Ted Jellison, Rebecca Birmingham, Mary and Ernie Jordan, Mae Littlefield, Ann Birmingham, Debbie and Jeff Kinney, Wanda and David Mitchell, John and Lee Birmingham, and Jill and David Schulz. He was the very proud grandfather of 24 children and great-grandfather of 29 children. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Lougee; many special nieces, nephews and good friends."

[32001] William's obituary: "William Shade, the oldest man in Mifflin county, died yesterday at the age of 92, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henrietta E. Gilliland, Wayne township, death being due to pneumonia. Mr. Shade spent his entire life in Wayne township and followed farming actively until a week ago, when he was stricken ill. His wife died fifteen years ago. He is survived by ten children, 54 grandchildren, 134 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Shade was a veteran of the Civil war, serving with Company F, 102nd regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and was one of the oldest Odd Fellows in the State. The ten children surviving are as follows: Mrs. Sarah E. Harshberger, Ryde: Mrs. Belle J. Runk, Altoona; Edmund Shade, Union Church; Mrs. Rebecca V. Sunderland, Wayne township; Mrs. Lucy Coulter, South Conway; Mrs. Henrietta E. Gilliland, at whose home he died; George B. Shade, Newton Falls, Ohio; Mrs. Catherine E. Whisel, Mifflin; Mrs. Susan G. Snook, Newton Falls, Ohio, and W. Pomeroy Shade, Hollidaysburg. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Presbyterian church at Newton Hamilton. Interment will be made in the church cemetery. William P. Shade was the son of John K. Shade and Mary Magdalena Shoemaker Shade. He spent his youth and nearly 50 years on the Shade homestead in Long Hollow. He married Isabel Johnston, a schoolmate, neighbor and childhood friend. Between 1870 and 1880 they moved to a farm on New Hope Road in Wayne Township. They had 13 children, eleven of whom survived to adulthood: Sarah Elizabeth, Isabella Jane, Mary Ann, John Thomas, Susan Matilda, Edward Purcell, Rebecca Bower, Lucy Emma, Henrietta Elmira, George Benton McClellan, Eva Amanda Catherine, Susanna G, and William Pomeroy Shade."
