[523] Elizabeth m. (1) Stephen Edwards (- "Gen. Dict. of ME & NH", p. 87). She was widowed when she married Peter. Deeds indicate her as probable daughter of Robert Beadle. The same day the town granted five acres to her there were granted to Christopher Beadle ten acres of upland at the head of the lot which was his father's in Long Reach. She was living in 1720 ("Old Kittery", p. 752). See "Old Eliot: A Monthly Magazine of the History and Biography of the Upper Parish of Kittery, Now Eliot", Vol. 6, pp. 37 ff.
[51891] Mary is said to be daughter of Richard Brawn (b. in 1693) & Anne Eunice Witham (b. in 1691; m. 5 November 1725 in Kittery, York Co., ME).

This line is from "My Norton/Milbourn Family Home Page" by Steven Ray Norton
"John Milbourn's Will" - ancestry.com - added by Dave_Milburn on 3 Apr 2008:
"In John's will, dated 1761, he names children, Robert (deceased) John, Andrew, William, Patience Perkins, Hannah Gilliam, Elizabeth Parker, Grand children: John David (children of Robert, dec.) His wife was named executrix. Witnesses: John Frost, Charles Parkin (Parker), Patience Parkins and James Wood. A page from the family bible of John and Laura Bassett has the following narrative: "John Milburn from New Jersey was married in Quaker ceremony to Elizabeth Chatman in 1724. She was the daughter of Robert. Chatman moved with their children to Frederick Co., VA in 1742. He bought land of John Frost who bought from Lord Baltimore. Their son, John Milburn, whose wife was Mary Milburn had youngest son Jonathan Milburn who married Nancy Ann Emberson in Green Co., in 1796. This Jonathan was in the Wayne Wars 1794-1796 and was made lieutenant by Gen. John Sevier. His first children were Rev. Billie Milbourn, born 1797 - Joseph Milburn, born 1800 and Elizabeth Milburn who married Silas Carrie Shanks." On 6 Oct. 1756 he conveyed half of the land whereon he lived to son Robert with the restriction that Johon and his wife Elizabeth would have full liberty of the land during their lifetime. John Milbourn made his will 14 Aug. 1761; it was proved Dec. 1761 in Frederick Co., VA. He gave the 20 pounds due his wife from the estate of her father, Robert Chapman of Chesterfield Township, Burlington Co., NJ to their son William."
For the culture of the mid-Atlantic colonies during his lifetime and beyond, see "Albion's Seed: Four British Folkways in America," David Hackett Fischer (NY: Oxford University Press, 1989), pp. 419-603.

"Rev Robert Milburn Reserch Info" added by Dave_Milburn on 6 Sep 2007 -
"Rev. Robert Milburn b. abt. 1760 at Frederick Co., VA, d. Dec. 1826 at Washington Co., KY; m.#1 Feb. 26, 1783 at Frederick Co., VA to Sebely Engham - Children: (12?!); m.#2 Aug. 24, 1803 to Margaret Grayham, daughter of John Grayham and Nancy Watson - Margaret d. aft. 1835 at Washington Co., KY - Children: (another 10 or 11?!!). (Really unsure of the info about children!) Robert and Sebely had one son, Ewan Milburn, who m. 1st cousin Sarah T. Milburn (daughter of William H. Milburn and Bethia Hutchinson). Rev. Robert's Parents: John Milbourn b. abt. 1730 at Chesterfield Twp. (Burlington Co.) NJ, d. bfr. Sept. 6, 1792 at Frederick Co., VA, m.#1 abt. 1754 at Burlington Co., NJ to Eleanor Glenn, m.#2 Nov. 9, 1790 at Frederick Co., VA to Mary Bryant. John was evidently served in the Revolutionary War as he received a pension (#C-7279) for public service, namely for furnishing food and shelter to Continental Line Troops. His will was dated June 15, 1792 and is filed at Winchester (Frederick Co.) VA, Book 1, pg. 162. (I don't have a copy of this - just heard it was filed there from a fellow researcher.) Info about either wife is unknown to me. John's Parents: John Milbourn b. abt. 1705 at Chesterfield Twp. (Burlington Co.) NJ, d. between Aug. 14 - Dec. 1, 1761 at Frederick Co., VA, buried: Milburn Cemetery in Frederick Co., VA, m. Dec. 3, 1724 at Chesterfield MM (Monthly Meeting - Quaker Church) at Burlington Co., NJ to Elizabeth Chapman. John and Elizabeth were Quakers, later Methodists. They declared their intent to marry at the Chesterfield MM on Sept. 5, 1724 (it should be noted that the Quakers used the "old time" calendar. Not sure I fullly understand it, but dates sometimes appear differently than the traditional calendar we use today). They were originally members of the Haddonfield Meeting (Camden, NJ) and traveled to Frederick Co., VA in 1747 with a certificate of membership dated Mar. 11, 1747. Evidently, in Hinshaw's Early Quaker Records there are a number of citations about Elizabeth Chapman Milbourn and her children. Several of these citations are disownments of the various sons. This is most likely due to the fact that Quakers are pacifists, and their sons most likely joined the militia. If you, or anyone reading this, has heard of family researcher Milburn Sis Divine, I have a note from another researcher who corresponded with her that she (Sis Divine) thought the sons "took up arms" as a direct result of Robert's death aboard a British "hellship" anchored near Philadelphia in about 1760. Robert was John and Elizabeth's oldest child, b. 1725 in NJ. [If you (or anyone) have information about that incident, I'd love to hear the story. I've tried researching "hellships" online, but can't find any information. I'm obviously not looking in the right place.] John's will can evidently be found in the Frederick Co., VA Will Book #3, pg. 9. (I haven't seen it.) Elizabeth Chapman b. abt. 1704 in Burlington Co., NJ d. abt. 1773 in Frederick Co., VA (her will was dated Oct. 9, 1771 - proved Sept. 7, 1773). Her parents were Robert Chapman and Sarah Griswold. John's Parents: Andrew Milbourne b. abt. 1661 (at Burmuda??? at England???), d. Feb. 19, 1739/40 at Hopewell (Hunterdon Co.) or Chesterfield (Burlington Co.) NJ ???, m. Sarah (info unknown). Information I have for Andrew and Sarah is REALLY sketchy [even sketchier (is that a word?!) than other info I have!] Andrew's Parents: William Milbourne and Susanna Turfey. William was bro. of Jacob Milbourne who m. Jacob Leisler's daughter Mary. Jacob M. and Jacob Leisler were executed during the Leisler Rebellion in NY in 1691. William's Parents: Luke Milbourne, baptised 1622 in England d. 1667/68, buried: St. Michael's Cemetery in Coventry, Leicestershire, England, m. 1647 to Phoebe (info unknown) - Info I have for him says he was a Tailor. Research notes from Sis Divine says he was Minister of London's St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church. He was referred to as the only man in England with enough fortitude to speak out against the beheading of Charles Cromwell (King Charles I). According to the Dictionary of National Biography's Oxford Press, Luke was elected nonconformist divine; was born in Loughborough, Leicestershire; was baptised on St. Luke's Day, 18 Oct. 1622. He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and graduated M.A. in 1646. "His plain speaking on the subject of the execustion of Charles I nearly cost him imprisonment. He kept, for the rest of his life, an annual fast on Jan. 30...He had 20 children, of whom four, including Luke Milbourne (the junior) survived him."
