[46004] "The Call [Schuylkill Haven, PA], 25 March 1927," p. 5: "William Bubeck, a life long resident of Schuylkill Haven, died Monday afternoon at 5.30 o'clock at the Jefferson Hospital at which institution he underwent an operation Thursday of last week. He rallied following the operation and appeared bright and cheery. He looked forward to the second operation which was to have been performed this Thursday and had told his family it could not come too soon. Sunday evening however, a change for the worst was noted in his condition. Monday noon he lapsed into unconsciousness and passed peacefully away at 5.30. His death was a shock to the family as there had been most every assurance from his condition that he would recover. Deceased was 67 years of age. He is survived by his widow and these children, Miriam and Mildred at home, Mr. Harold Bubeck of Schuylkill Haven. These brothers and sisters survive, John, of Cressona; Charles, George, Clayton and Frank of town; Mrs. Minnie McKenna of Phila. and Mrs. Daniel Shappell, of Schuylkill Haven. Mr. Bubeck was born in Schuylkill Haven and spent his life here. He was employed as yard conductor in the Mine Hill Division for a period of 30 years and had only relinquished this work temporarily the early part of January on account of his health. Several times during the past few weeks he had recovered sufficiently to be about but each time suffered a relapse. In his early days he followed boating and when the canal was closed he was employed in Phila. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church. Fraternally he was connected with the Red Men, the Junior Mechanics and the O. R. C."

Robert's place in this ancestry is questionable. Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 Edition, 21:279: "STAFFORD (Family). This famous English house was founded in England by Robert, a younger brother of Ralf de Tosny (Toeni), of a noble Norman house, who was standard-bearer of the duchy. Robert received at the Conquest a great fief extending into seven counties and became known as Robert de Stafford from his residence at Stafford castle. With his son the male line became extinct, and his sister's husband, Hervey Bagot, one of his knightly tenants, succeeded to the fief in her right (1194); their descendant Edmund de Stafford (that surname having been
assumed) was summoned as a baron in 1299." His ancestry as given here is from Burke's "Dormant Peerages" (London, 1883) which states that Robert was sheriff of Staffordshire "from the 2nd to the end of the 6th year, inclusive, of King Henry II's reign, and in six years afterwards paid towards the marriage portion of the king's dau. 60 marks for 60 knights' fees. This Robert performed a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and d. about the year 1176, and was succeeded by his son, Robert de Stafford, at whose
decease, about 1139 [sic], s.p., the feudal barony and lordships devolved upon his only sister and heiress, Milicent de Stafford....". Cf. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famille_de_Tosny.
