"Dictionary of National Biography, Vol. 38," Leslie Stephen (1900), p. 108 states John m. (1) Ada, daughter of "Robert, or Payn, Tiptoft", and provide details of his life and military service.
In 2012 http://www.celtic-casimir.com offers: John was "son and heir, a minor at his father's death. His marriage was granted at once to Robert Tibetot, and the custody of his lands to various people, while he himself remained a ward to the King under the tutorship of John Launceleve. He came of age before 18 May 1290, when he had livery of his lands. He received his earliest summons for military service (in Wales) when only 13, and was constantly engaged throughout a long life in campaigns in Gascony, Flanders, Wales and Scotland. He was summoned to Parliament from 6 February 1299 to 23 October 1330, by writs directed Jobanni de Mohun, whereby he is held to have become LORD MOHUN. He was present at the siege of Carlaverock in 1300, and in February 1300, as Dominus de Dunsterre, he took part in the Barons' letter to the Pope. In December 1307 he was appointed joint Keeper of the Peace in Somerset; and in February 1307/8 was summoned to the Coronation of Edward II. In Oct. 1313, as an adherent of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, he received a pardon for participation in the death of Gavaston and the disturbances consequent thereon. In 1321 he was among those forbidden (in January) to attend any illegal or treasonable assemblies, and (in November) the meeting of "Good Peers" summoned at Doncaster by Thomas, Earl of Lancaster; but he was summoned to the muster at Coventry of the forces marching against the Earl. In January 1325/6 he was appointed one of the chief supervisors of array in Somerset and Dorset, but superseded in April, perhaps on account of his infirmities. He married 1stly, in or before 1299, Ada, probably daughter of Robert TIBETOT. She died in or before 1324 (k). He married, 2ndly, early in 1325 or previously, Sibyl, widow of Henry DE LORTY, 1st Lord Orty (died 1321). He died 25 August 1330, and was buried in the church of Dunster Priory, probably on the north side of the chancel. His widow, though reported dead in 1335, was living September 1337, and appears to have been buried 13 November 1337, at Curry Rivel.
