[6556] Elbridge married and was a school teacher in California, retiring in 1976. He had a daughter ca. 1935 who died in a fire quite young. In his later years he was as a real estate broker. "Santa Maria Times [Santa Maria, California], 15 January 1985," p. 15: "Services will be held at 2 p.m, Wednesday in Chapel of the Magner-Maloney Funeral Home for Elbridge 'Hutch' Hutcnins, 69, who died Sunday in a local hospital of natural causes. Guadalupe Masonic 'Lodge No. 237 F&AM will officiate. Burial will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery. Mr. Hutchins was born in Penobscot, Maine and had been a Santa Maria resident for the past 10 years, moving from West Covina. He was educated at the University of Maine, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1951 and master's degree in education, with a minor in law, in 1954. He did post- master's work at Johns Hopkins University in 1955. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity at Johns Hopkins. He attended Cal State Los Angeles. He was an educator for over 30 years, as an instructor and administrator at the elementary and junior high school levels. He taught in Maine, Maryland and California and held lifetime teaching credentials in Maine and California. He worked as a real estate agent in Santa Maria, last associated with Realty World Stein. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Santa Maria Board of Realtors, California and National Association of Realtors, Limestone Lodge No. 214 AF&AM in Springfield, Maine, and the Roy Arch. Survivors include his widow, Harriet Hutchins, Santa Maria; daughter, Margaret H. Jalbert, Santa Maria; sons, William W. Hutchins, San Dimas, and James L. Hutchins, Ridgecrest; brother, Gordon Hutchins. Augusta, Maine; eight granddaughters and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne M. Hutchins, on Oct. 27, 1945."
