[37784] This person is from the unverified Smolka Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2014 - more research is needed. Ancestry.com offers: "Francis Name Meaning - English: from the personal name Francis (Old French form Franceis, Latin Franciscus, Italian Francisco). This was originally an ethnic name meaning 'Frank' and hence 'Frenchman'. The personal name owed much of its popularity during the Middle Ages to the fame of St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), whose baptismal name was actually Giovanni but who was nicknamed Francisco because his father was absent in France at the time of his birth."
[12857] Hopewell is daughter of William Furbish of Thompson's Point, Eliot, ME, a Scottish prisoner of war sent to America by the English - see "Hugh Hutchins of Old England" (Balt., 1984), p. 689. Hopewell m. (2) 25 April 1711 William Wilson (son of Joseph Wilson and Hannah Endle) and had five children with William. For William Wilson's ancestry and genealogy see NEHGR 162 (2008), p. 293. Also see "New England Captives Carried to Canada...," Emma Lewis Coleman (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2012), p. 391.

[7071] Richard's siblings are Mary, Jane, Edward, John, Ellin, Henry, Luke, Elyzeabeth [sic] and Bartholomew. See "British Roots of Maryland Families," Robert W. Barnes (Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing, 1999), p. 261 which states "Richard Isaacke, son of Edward (2) and Jane (Cheyney), was baptized on 23 Feb 1606, and m. in Nov 1633 to Elizabeth Sharpe. She was bapt. at Bassingthorpe on 24 Feb 1613, the daughter of William Sharpe and Elizabeth (Coney). Richard and Elizabeth (Sharp) Isaac were the parents of several children, bapt. at Great Gonnerby, Lincs. The surviving Parish Record lists the baptism of the following children at Great Gonerby (or "Gunwardby"): JOSEPH (birth date unknown, but referred to as "eldest brother" by Edward); RICHARD, bapt. 19 Sep 1633; MARY, bapt. 14 March 1635, buried 17 March 1635; SUTTON, bapt. 9 Jan 1637; EDWARD, bapt. 26 Dec 1639; REBECCA, prob. b. c1640; came to MD, and m. John Brooke, b. c1640, d. 1678; she named her brother, Edward as her attorney in settlement of her husband's estate; and CHEINY-SHARPE, bapt. 12 June 1651; bur. in 1652 (Foose noted that Cheiny-Sharpe was an unusual double name in the introduction to the printed text of the Bishop's Transcripts of Great Gonerby Parish, when it was published in the nineteenth century (available at The Library of Congress). This child lived less than a year; his double name memorializes his mother and one of his grandmothers, placing him among the children of Richard and Elizabeth. He is not listed in the IGI, as the LDS apparently were not able to photograph the Bishop's Transcripts, and he is not in the extant Parish Records)."

[24663] "Briner Family History," Myers and Clouse (Harrisburg, PA: 1984), pp. 344-45: "His biography is in Hain's 'History of Perry County.' He attended the public schools and later learned printing. He left Perry County in 1905 and worked as a priner in New Jersey, Connecticut and Philadelphia for about four years. In the autumn of 1909 he returned to New Bloomfield and attended the Bloomfield Academy until spring, when he went to Florida and located at Live Oak, as foreman of the 'Suwanee Democrat.' After two years he was made manager of the publication. He held this position four years, and then became manager of the 'Gadsen County Times' of Quincy, Florida. In 1918 he purchased this plant, and has since owned and edited the paper. When Cary A. Hardee became governor of Florida it was after his name had been first announced by Mr. Sweger, who has since been made a member of the governor's staff with rank of lieutenant colonel." Roy's obituary is in the "Tampa Day Times [St. Petersburg, FL], 19 March 1944," p. 10.
