[61204] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], " 2 January 2026: "Littleton, Maine - Raymond Alton Wotton, 88, passed away December 29, 2025, surrounded by his family in Houlton. Raymond was born July 20, 1937, son of Alton R. and Reta (Cowperthwaite) Wotton. Raymond was a graduate of Houlton High School, class of 1956. After high school, he joined the United States Army and was an engineer, stationed mainly in Hawaii, where he and Sandra made lifelong friendships. Raymond married the love of his life, Sandra Bell Wotton, August 23, 1958, sharing 67 years together. Together, they raised three children, Kent Wotton, of Stockton Springs, Marc (Lorie) Wotton, of Monticello, and Amy (Daniel) Corey, of Monticello and Saint Augustine, Florida. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and from a very young age. They were also his camp buddies - teaching them how to hunt, fish, and be amazing cooks. His grandchildren are, Stephen Wotton, Daniel Wotton, Ashley Cote, Sara Corey Parker, Jonathan Corey, and Benjamin Corey. He also had very special great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his seven special McGary nephews, who he thought of as sons, Ronald, Wayne, Larry, Timmy, Donnie, Kevin, and Andy. He also leaves a special sister-in-law, Judith Tingley and her family, of Belfast, Maine. After serving in the Army, Raymond and Sandra moved back to Littleton where they owned and operated a dairy farm and potato farm, teaching their children the value of hard work and a love of farming. Raymond was instrumental in the organization of Littleton Potato Growers and the Littleton Fire Department. He served on the Littleton Board of Selectmen and was chairman for 24 years. Raymond, Charlie Johnston, and Lee Swimm designed and built the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowmobile Club with wives, Carol, Rae, and Sandra, helping make it what it is today. He served on the Maine State Farm Service Agency and was past president of the Maine Potato Board, where he played a crucial role in the start of the Maine Potato Booth at the Springfield Fair in Massachusetts. He was past director and chairman of the Maine Potato Quality Control Board, sat on the project revue committee for the PMIF. He was a member of the Maine House of Representatives, where he made many special friends, including Walter Wheeler and Jackie Lundeen, and also served on the board of directors for Katahdin Trust Company. Raymond was the owner of Northeast Potato Growers and C & W Citgo in Littleton. He was a member of the Littleton Baptist Church, and was heavily involved in the addition of the church. His favorite pastime was being at his camp on North Brook, cooking and entertaining anyone that stopped in to visit and have a great meal. He had many special friends from camp over the years including Paul Belyea, Walter Day, Lee Swimm, Larry Pryor, Charlie Johnston, Jim Brady, Darrell Toner, Walfy Roy, Hartley Shaw, Lawrence and Oral Watson, Tom Schools, Jimmy Westerdahl and all his friends from St. Croix Lake. In the last few years, Raymond could be found on the farm, helping his grandson, Ben, and Phil Perfitt with anything that needed to be done. He also enjoyed his yearly trips with Bill Dunbar and the boys to Florida. In addition to his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his sister, Laura Wotton McGary and her husband, Donald McGary."
