[46419] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 August 1943, p. 16: "Searsport, Aug. 27 - The death of Leslie L. Grindle, 50, a veteran of World War I, occurred Friday morning at his home on Mount Ephraim road after a long illness. He had been confined to his bed for the past 16 months. He was born in Blue Hill, Sept. 25, 1892, son of Mrs. Martha (Smith) Grindle Redman, now of Lincolnville, and the late Frank Grindle. He had been a resident of Searsport since a young man and was in the employ of the Bangor and Aroostook railroad when he was inducted into the Army during World War I. He served in France for 14 months. After the war he returned to Searsport and resumed his work for the Bangor and Aroostook railroad, and at the time he had to stop work on account of illness; he was fender boss there. He was a member of Sears lodge, I.O.O.F., of Searsport, and the Knights of Pythias of Belfast. He is survived by his second wife, the former Christine Irving of Searsport; three daughters and three sons, Pfc. Sumner A, Grindle and Pfc. Russell F. Grindle, both of whom are stationed in the Southwest Pacific area; Betty, Evelyn, Doris and Raymond Grindle, who live at home; one sister, Mrs. Raymond Wallace of Lincolnville; four brothers, John of Searsport, Lincoln of Portland, Dana and Ralph of Llncolnville; and his mother." Leslie served in the Infantry during World War I. He was a "railroad man".
