H. Brilhart, aged nearly 73 years, died at his home at Ord on February 28, with pneumonia resulting from the flu. He was a resident of that section of the county practically all his lifetime and was highly esteemed. He united with the Church of the Brethren early in life and remained a faithful member until death. He was a brother of the late Josiah and William Brilhart, of Indiana. He leaves a widow and six children - John H., of Meadville; Mrs. Loney O'Harrah, of East Run; A. B. Brilhart, of Gipsy; Mrs. Catherine Berkey, of Purchase Line; Merrill Brilhart of Akron, O., and Milton Q. Brilhart, who resides on the old homestead with his parents."

George was born April 27, 1940, in Bangor, the son of George Pickard Sr. and Beulah (Meserve) Pickard. George is survived by his two sons, George Pickard III and his companion Anna Walls of Franklin and Scott Pickard and companion Debra Doughty of Eastbrook, and his daughter, Deborah Pickard, and her companion Stacey Curtis of Lamoine. George had eight grandchildren: Damian, Justin, Ryan, Cathy, Devi, George, Anna and Matthew. He also had 13 great-grandchildren. He loved all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly! George was always a hard worker and great provider for his family. He worked the majority of his life in the blueberry business, mainly at the former Agvest in Franklin. Whether working in the factory running the engine room or on the fields running the equipment he was always an exceptional worker and took pride in the job he did. He also gained a lot of great friends and memories. George not only had a huge heart, but he had a huge sense of humor. He truly loved to laugh, and his laugh was infectious. His laugh itself was funny and could brighten anyones day. His laughter will be dearly missed. After retirement he enjoyed camping with his wife and going to Linwood in Gouldsboro to listen to music. He also loved to do little buildings projects in his shop. He was able to attend a few races to watch his favorite drivers, the Carney Boys. He would get quite excited to retell the details of the races, especially if they won! George was predeceased by his wife, Kay, his four sisters, Patty, Dinny, Sandra and Judy, his daughter-in-law, Trudy Pickard, and his grandson, Damian Pickard. Also his beloved dog of 17 years, Sandy."

William L. Scruggs was an American author, lawyer, and diplomat. He was a scholar of South American foreign policy and U.S. ambassador to Colombia and Venezuela. He played a key role in the Venezuela Crisis of 1895 and helped shape the modern interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine.
Scruggs was U.S. Minister to Colombia from July 24 1873 to October 26 1876 and again from July 19 1882 to December 15 1885. In 1884 he became known as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, Colombia. Previously his title was simply Minister Resident, Colombia.
Scruggs was U.S. Minister to Venezuela from May 30, 1889 to December 15 1892. In 1889 he became known as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, Venezuela. Scruggs appeared to resign his ambassadorship to Venezuela in December 1892, but in fact had been dismissed by the US for bribing the President of Venezuela.
In 1893 Scruggs was recruited by the Venezuelan Government to operate on its behalf in Washington D.C. as a lobbyist and legal attache. As a lobbyist, Scruggs published the pamphlet entitled "British Aggressions in Venezuela: The Monroe Doctrine on Trial".
