[5250] Michael's family is in the 1860 federal census. Michael and Sarah were recieved into membership at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jeromesville, Ohio 14 Jan 1854 and are on the roll of communicant members 18 Nov 1849. In addition to the children shown here they apparently had a Sarah J. Heichel, b. 12 April Mohican Twp., Ashland Co., OH {-WHN, 1995} and perhaps an Addie E. Heichel - per Becky L. Teubner (beckyteubner@juno.com, 6/99). Becky Teubner's in Ancestry World Tree states that Michael, Jr. was b. in Middletown, Dauphin Co., PA. "A History of the Pioneer and Modern Times of Ashland County: From the Earliest to the Present Date," Horace S. Knapp (J.B. Lippincott & Co., 1863), p. 91, lists Michael Heichel among those from Mohican Twp. who enlisted for three years and three months in the Ohio Volunteer Militia. The "Official Roster of the Soldiers in the State of Ohio" reports Michael enlisted 11 Nov 1861 and was mustered out 2 Dec 1864 at Columbus, OH having served in McLaughlin's Squadron. The Cleveland (OH) "Plain Dealer" newspaper 19 Nov 1900, p. 6, reports that Michael Heichel of Hayesville had his pension increased to $12.
