"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 8 March 2024: "Kennebunk - Nadia Helena Avery Rand, 92, a lifelong resident of Old Town, ME, died Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Saco, ME, with her son by her side. She was born October 26, 1931, the daughter of Frank and Helena Avery of Milford, ME. Nadia attended Milford and Old Town schools and took night classes at University of Maine, Orono, working hard to get a degree in child development which was her long-time goal. Nadia was a member of the original Old Town Head Start staff. She worked her way up to teaching director and worked in the Old Town Center for 17 years, retiring when her husband of 40 years, James, passed away with cancer. Together, the couple had four sons: Lee of Lincoln, Jay of Brewer, David of Kennebunkport, and Alan, now deceased.
Life was good, spending childhood at the camp in Greenfield, with all the Avery family and later spending her happiest summers at their cottage on Beech Hill Pond in Otis. She became an associate member of the Otis Baptist Church. Nadia was an active member and had many friends in the Town of Otis and friends living on Beech Hill. This was the happiest time of her life with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nadia had two very special Christian friends, now deceased: Arlene Flanders and Joan Oliver. The three of them traveled together for many years. Nadia was predeceased by two sisters, Gloria Salisbury and Betty Comstock. She is also survived by her sister, Natalie Storman; and her special, life-long friend, Theola Dawes. The William and Gail Rand family of Old Saybrook, CT, were like her second family, and she loved them all dearly. She had many extended family members, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. There will be no funeral. A private graveside service will be held at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town, ME, to be determined on a later date."
A file in Ancestry.com in 2013 offers: "Robert Bodfish, by the Rev. James Bradbury Mitchell, Jr. sourced by genealogist Amos Otis, "Genealogical Notes on Barnstable Families" published 1888 by the Patriot Press.
Robert Bodfish emigrated from Bromfield, Essex, England and settled for a time in Lynn, Massachusetts. He came to Sandwich in 1637, one of the original proprietors of the town. In the division of meadow lands in 1640, which gave to each proprietor lands according to his "quality and condition," Bodfish was assigned five acres, a little less than an average size lot. In 1641 he was selected as a surveyor of highways. In 1644 he served on the grand jury, and in the same year he was licensed to operate a tavern in the town of Sandwich.
The Bodfish family moved to Barnstable in 1657. Robert Bodfish died that year leaving his wife, Bridget.
