His mother was Adela, his father's cousin and a daughter of Hamelin de Warenne by his wife Isabel de Warenne, 4th Countess of Surrey."

[3553] Northeim is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany. The city of Northeim is first mentioned in 800 in a document recording a propery transfer by a Frankish nobleman to the Abbey of Fulda. In the 10th century the wider area became a county under the Counts of Northeim. The first of them, Siegfried of Northeim is mentioned in 982. From 1061 to 1070 Count Otto II of Northeim held the duchy of Bavaria as an Imperial fief, but he lost it because of an alleged involvement in a murder plot against the king.
