[56531] Richard's obituary: "Prospect - Richard 'Eddie' Dyer, 73, died Jan. 2, 2003, at his home in Prospect. He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Beverly, Mass.; the son of Raymond B. and Emma J. (Slipp), Dyer. Eddie, as he was commonly known, came to Maine, his family's former home, directly after graduating from Beverly High School, Beverly, Mass. With his parents, he bought the Sail Inn Restaurant in Prospect, and worked there and at Grenci and Ellis Stone Shed, two jobs he carried for many years. In 1998, with family and friends, a celebration of 50 years of operation of the Sail Inn was held. Governor Angus King, his wife, Mary, and motorcycle friends, joined the festivities, adding to a fun day. Throughout the years, there was always time for family activities, including teaching his sons to hunt and fish and enjoy the Maine woods. School functions were always attended by at least one parent while the other worked at 'The Inn'. During these years, Eddie's wonderful voice brought enjoyment to many. He performed for many benefits in the area and also tried his hand at amateur shows, many of which he won. An offer to go to New York to try his luck at the 'big time' was turned down due to obligations at home. His voice was natural gift from God, as he had no formal training and could listen to a song and learn the words and tunes. He was a member of the Sandy Point Congregational Church and a 25-year member of Felicity Lodge Masons of Bucksport. Besides his family and his work, one of Eddie's great loves was his involvement with the Knights of Pythias Lodge. He joined at the McKinley Lodge, Prospect, and later the Colonel Brewer Lodge, Brewer. Starting in 1951 as a Knight and going on to become Grand Chancellor for the State of Maine, 1985-1986, past Supreme Lodge representative, Deputy Supreme Chancellor. His love of the remembered by all who heard him do an installation or a part in degree work. He took great pride doing this all from memory. One of the highlights of his lodge time was receiving the award of the 'Golden Spur, presented to a Knight for outstanding work in and for the organization. The lodge work and travel gave him the opportunity to make many new friends in the States as well as Canada, especially the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Daughters of Egypt - No mention of the Knights is complete without speaking of the Sisters. Eddie had the greatest respect for their degree work and counted many of them as close friends. He served as selectman of the Town of Prospect. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, horse races, card playing, and amateur singing. Everyone who knew Eddie will remember his smile, firm handshake for the men and hugs and kisses for the ladies. Equally all will remember his favorite question: 'Are you behaving?' Eddie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vera; daughter, Constance and her husband, Steve Sisson, their children, Chad and wife, Karen, great-granddaughter, Edin, Amy and husband, Dajuan, great-granddaughters, Shayla and Kiera; son, Richard E. Jr. and his wife, Mary, their children, Reed and Katie; son, Brad and daughter, Ami; daughter, Christine and her husband, Chris Gray, their sons, Derek, Cory, and Rusty; son, Paul and wife, Sheri, their children, Lucas and Alec; son, Robert and wife, Luanne, their son, Cody; father-in-law, Harry M. Gebo; sister, Georgia, her children, Lynne, Pam, and Hal; brother, George and his wife, Maxine, their children, Gina, Kevin, Wendy, and Chris; nieces and nephews, Winston and Sonya Thomas, Lou-Ann and Bruce Skakle, Jamie Thomas, Theresa and Jeff Gross, Larry Libby and Alice Noiles; many grandnieces and nephews; many great-grandnieces and nephews; two cousins, Lorraine and Elaine. Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Emma; mother-in-law, Anna Gebo; half sister, Susan Libby and her husband, Bill (who taught Eddie to shoot and hunt); sister-in-law, Mary Thomas (Mary and Eddie shared a love for the Boston Red Sox) and her husband, Winston; brother-in-law, Sidney Deutsch; daughter-in-law, Andrea; aunts and uncles."
