They had two daughters, Mary born in 1847 and Lucy born in 1848. Sadly, Rhoda died in 1861. Joshua was then married to Cordelia Bowden on Apr. 6, 1861. Joshua and Cordelia had eight children: Verrilla S. Hewes, 1863, Joshua Lincoln Hewes, 1864-1920), Orissa B. Hewes, 1867, Buren E. Hewes, 1869, Sylvina B. Hewes, 1871, Lillian Mae Hewes, 1873-1952), Irving Rosco Hewes, 1876-1939), Arthur P. Hewes, 1880. For most of his life, Joshua was a farmer in Wintersport. He died there at the age of 72 in 1896."

She was an excellent cook and enjoyed weaving. She is survived by a nephew, Lincoln Page of Albany, NY; niece, Deborah Page Marcus of Cornell, NY; five grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Alex Ray. Interment will be at Remick Cemetery, Ellsworth."
