[9317] Andrew's story is given in "Briner Family History", p. 324. He was a graduate of Dickinson College (1905) and Boston University School of Theology (1908), and was an active Methodist pastor for more than forty years. "The Sentinel [Carlisle, PA], 12 February 1962," p. 6: "Rev. Andrew L. Bixler, 82, of 1339 West Main Street. Palmyra, graduate of Dickinson College and former director of religious education at the college, died on Saturday at his home. A retired Methodist minister, he had served congregations hi New England and Central Pennsylvania, retiring from Harrisburg's Ridge Avenue Methodist Church in 1950 after 44 years as a clergyman. During World War I, he served as an overseas Young Men's Chirstian Association secretary in France with the A.E.F. Immediately after the war he served one year as director of religious education at Dickinson College. He was graduated from Dickinson College in 1905 and Boston University Theological School in 1908. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity while at Dickinson. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Caroline M. Bixler; two sons, Andrew L.M., Miquon, Pa., and George W., Indianapolis; a daughter. Miss Olive L. Bixler, at home, five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren."

Muchland was held from the Abbot of Furness Abbey, who held the other moiety of Furness from the Earl of Lancaster. Furness is a peninsula and region of Cumbria in northwestern England.
