[55875] Ernest's obituary: "Hampden- Ernest L. Atwood passes away peacefully on January 20, 2021 in his home. He was born on July 2, 1929, the son of Raymond Sr. and Edith Arey Atwood. Ernest was stationed in Germany for the reconstruction after World War II from 1951 to 1953. Once he arrived back home in Bucksport, he married his childhood sweetheart Maxine Smith on May 31, 1953. He dedicated over 40 years at the Eastern Fine Paper Mill in Brewer to support his family. He enjoyed taking his wife to the Eagles club every Saturday night to go dancing. In the summer he liked to take his boat out at Half Moon Pond to go fishing. Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He liked telling stories of his time abroad when he was in the army and of his childhood, when he and his siblings would play at Silver Lake. In his later years he enjoyed going to Florida with his family during the winter months, swinging on the porch swing with his beloved wife and the company of his cat Tiger. Ernest was loved by so many for his calm nature and his wise words. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by his brothers Fredrick Atwood and wife Betsy of Prospect and Wilford Atwood and wife Martha of Bucksport, sisters-in-law Irene Atwood, Thiry Atwood, sons, David A Smith of Orrington, Ernest O. Atwood of Huntsville AL and daughter, Faye M. Witham, and son-in-law Roscoe C. Witham of Hampden. Grandsons; Jason J. Atwood and Jared M. Atwood of Huntsville, AL and Roscoe C. Witham of Holden, granddaughter Rachel (Witham) Smith and her husband Dustin Smith of Abbeville, LA, and great-grandsons Aiden M. Smith and Collin M. Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond Sr. and Edith Atwood, wife Maxine Atwood, brothers; Raymond and Herbert and sisters; Ruth Hutchins and husband George Hutchins, Barbara Thomas and husband Walter Thomas, Edith Arnold and husband Alden Arnold, Yvonne Downs, and husband Charlie Downs, Shirely Grigsby and husband Gordon Grigsby and Joan Bridges and husband Raymond Bridges."
