Harrington, 86, of Church St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Saturday Feb. 13, 1999, in the Miller Memorial Community, in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Edith E. Fay Harrington. Born in Winter Harbor, Maine, Nov. 17, 1912, son of the late Foster P. and Eva Wescott Harrington, he was a longtime Yalesville resident. He had attended the Yalesville United Methodist Church. He had been employed by the Wallingford Board of Education as the head custodian for the Dag Hammarskjold Middle School for many years until his retirement. He had previously been employed by the International Silver Co., the Hall Bros. Hatchery, and the Yalesville and Wallingford Public Libraries. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Harrington is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan H. and John J. Rush; his son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Dorothy K. Harrington, all of Meriden; his grandchildren, Pamela R. and Joseph R. Guest, of Meriden, Brendan T. and Kristen G. Rush, of Wallingford, Sean D. Rush and Timothy F. Malin, of Cromwell; two sisters, Anne Larrabee, of Ashland, Ky., and Grace Gerrish, of Winter Harbor, Maine, and one great-granddaughter; Megan E. Guest, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marguerite Parker and Bernice Matthews; and three brothers; Frank Harrington, Spencer Harrington, and Arthur Harrington. The B'runwilarensis Monasterii Fundatio' names the seven daughters (in order) 'Richza, Adelheit, Ida, Mathild, Theophanu, Heylewig, Sophia' as children of 'Herenfridus comes palatinus, qui post Ezo nominatus est' and his wife 'Mathilde filia Magni Ottonis', specifying in a later passage that she was divorced from her husband and was mother of 'Gazimerum'. 'Heinricus . . . Romanorum imperator augustus' confirmed the foundation of Kloster Brauweiler by charter dated 18 Jul 1051 which names 'Richeza regina quondam Poleniæ . . . pro remedio anime sue fratrisque sui beate memorie Ottonis ducis aliorumque parentum suorum in monasterio Brunwilarensi sepultorum . . . per manum Heinrici palatini comitis filii patrui sui' and witnessed by 'Heinricus comes palatinus, Sicco comes, Starchri comes . . .'. [38688] This person is from the unverified Schott Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2015 which states William is son of Adam Smith (b. 1798) and Elizabeth Wehen (b. 1802 in Germany, d. 1870). A file in Ancestry.com in 2015 offers: "William F. Smith was born in Bedford County, Penn., January 18, 1833. He is a son of Adam and Elizabeth (Wehen) Smith, natives of Pennsylvania, and of German parentage. There were eight children in the family, four living -Henrietta, wife of Ferdinand Switzer; Elenor, wife of Jacob Switzer; William F. and Sophia, wife of William Rieber. The deceased are Margaret, Caroline, George A. and Reuben, who enlisted in the One Hundred and Twenty-third Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was killed in the battle of Winchester. After engaging in brick-making a number of years in various localities, the father came to this county in 1851, and purchased 120 acres of land, where he died a few years later. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in good standing. William F., the subject of this notice, was reared on the farm, and, after his father's death, aided in supporting the family. He was married, December 26, 1854, to Miss Elizabeth Stevens, daughter of John and Sarah Stevens, and the following are the names of the children born to them: Josiah J. October 20, 1855; George W., Sept. 7, 1857; John A., April 2, 1859; Rueben E., December 28, 1860; William V., March 20, 1863; Elenor M., May 26, 1868. Mr. Smith purchased and inherited 120 acres, on which he resided fourteen years. He then removed to Bucyrus to burn brick for the new Union School building, at that place sold his farm, purchasing one of 480 acres (the Renick farm), which he afterward disposed of in small lots, and purchased his present property. Besides 159 acres in this township, also owns forty acres in Marseilles Township, and is ranked among the best farmers of the county."
