He was born May 11, 1919, at Crawford, the son of Victor and Hazel (Perry) Archer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended the Woodland Baptist Church. For 40 years, he was a registered Maine guide. He was a member of Harwood Lodge No. 91, AF & AM of Machias. he retired from the St. Regis Paper Co. after 20 years of service. During his retirement he was occasionally employed by both Thomas DiCenzo & Son Inc. of Calais and G. E. Goding & Son of Woodland. He is survived by one daughter, Paula R. Carter of Woodlanbd; one brother, Russell Archer of Meddybemps; three sisters, Virginia Bowker and Lillian Ellis, both of Machias and Lois Joyce of Falmouth; two grandchildren, Jenny Lyn Guptill of Princeton and Troy A. Carter of Arizona; two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a loving companion, Arline Lowe of Crawford."

[5883] John was a Knight of the Garter, 7th Lord Clifford, and Sheriff of Westmoreland. http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/CLIFFORD.htm offers: "Only three years old when his father died in 1391. He married Elizabeth Percy - Harry Hotspur's daughter, in 1404. John was summoned as a Baron to Parliament from 1411 and in 1413 he attended the coronation of Henry V and went with him to France. He took part in the siege of Harfleur and the Battle of Agincourt 1415 and he received the surrender of Cherbourg. John liked to joust and was wounded in the great tournament of Carlisle but he recovered and in 1421 he was elected knight of the garter. He returned to France only to be killed at the siege of Meaux in 1422. His body was brought home and buried at buried Bolton Abbey. He left two sons Thomas and Henry and a daughter Mary." He had at least 5 sons and 2 daughters with Mary Fernald. He died on 1 January 1817, in Searsport, Waldo, Maine, United States, at the age of 67."
