[14654] The 1870 federal census in Vermont lists a Lyman, age 35, and wife Angie, age 30, with children Aruba (7) and Estella (4). "Rutland Daily Herald [Rutland, Vermont], 7 June 1926," p. 8: "Springfield, June 6 - Lyman Whitcomb, 91, the oldest resident of Springfield, died at his home on Union street Friday follpwing a period ot failing health. Mr. Whitcomb was born in Springfield, June 10, 1835, the son of Perez and Priscilla (Litchfield) Whitcomb His entire life has been spent in this town, where he was a successful farmer. After his retirement from farming more than a score of years ago, he came to live in the village, but his active nature would not allow him to remain idle, so he obtained work in one of the machine shops and continued to work there until his 90th birthday, when he was retired on account of advanced age. Even at this stage of his career, Mr. Whitcomb retained his physical capacities and boasted last winter that he could jump in the air and crack his heels together twice before his feet again touched the ground. He was thrice married, the last time to Agnes Sherman of this town, who survives him as does one brother, Myron and three children."
