Arnold Dunnells (adunnell@gibralter.net), a descendant of Joseph, shared via email in July, 2001: "In Michael's will, and in some of his deeds, he was referred to as Michael Dunnell. On the court approved distribution of his land, his widow signed Mary Dunnel. In The Reverend Capen's church baptism records, his children are all referred to as Dunnell. On the court document Joseph signed his name Dunell. His grandson Zachariah added the s to the name. I have heard that it was because he thought it sounded more "posh". But regardless of the reason, all of his descendents spelled the name with the s on the end.
[The reference for the following material is "The True Genealogy of The Dunnel And Dwinell Family of New England", by Henry Gale Dunnel M.D., of New York City, Published by Charles B Richardson, 1862.]
