"The Marion Star [Marion, Ohio], 11 October 1949," p. 10: "Rev. Abbott Gates Newton, 93, retired Methodist minister of Blanchester, father of Marion residents, died at 4:30 a. m. today in the Har-Vel rest home in Mt. Gilead. He had been ill two months. Born Aug. 13, 1856, in Missouri, he was a son of Azariah and Katherine Court Newton. Beginning his ministry in Cincinnati in 1888, he served various pastorates in that area for years, then retired in 1921. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Newton, whom he married Aug. 25, 1892, and children, Mrs. Guy Birch and Miller Newton, both of Marion, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Hannah funeral home at Blanchester. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery there."
