Colby's obituary: "Deer Isle - Colby C. Weed, 75, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 26, 2003 at a Blue Hill hospital. He was born in Stonington April 3, 1928 the son of Leon C. and Annabelle M. (Colby) Weed.
Colby was a member of the First Congregational Church of Deer Isle, Marine Lodge #122 of Deer Isle for 54 years, and the Deer Isle Firemans Association, where he served as president from 1967 until 1982. Colby was also a member of the Deer Isle Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years. He served in the Army for a brief time before returning to Maine. After working at a garage and driving a truck for a period of time, Colby started his own Excavation Contracting business, which he continued to own and operate for over fifty years. Colby knew and was known by many people, and will be remembered for his ability and love of telling a good story, sharing a joke, and sharing a conversation with all who knew him. He had an iron willpower, and had a strong determination not to give up to any obstacles which he faced. Colby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly A. (Trundy) Weed of Deer Isle; two children, Rick Weed of Deer Isle, and Joni Wardell and her husband Edward of Orland; four grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Weed, and Sarah and Lucas Wardell; a former daughter in law, Kathy Weed of Deer Isle; four nieces, Cheryl Hypes and her husband Danny of Deer Isle, Wendy Fontaine of Blue Hill, Diane Billings and her husband Arthur of Deer Isle and Linda Weed and her husband Jerry of Deer Isle; and many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends and business associates. In addition to his parents, Colby was predeceased by a son, Ronald Colby Weed, and a brother, Wilfred Weed and his wife, Myrna Weed."
