[4016] The 9 April 1940 federal census in Blakely, Lackawanna Co., PA lists Nicholas (age 32, a laborer at a coal refuse dump who completed one year of high school, renting at 607 Academy St.) with wife Vera (age 29) and daughter Judith (age 2 ?). This census indicates Nicholas worked 22 weeks in 1939, earned $550 and had income from other sources. His parents are from his marriage record - see "Pennsylvania, County Marriages, 1885 - 1950," index and images, FamilySearch - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VF7C-R5P. "The Times-Tribune [Scranton, PA], 2 July 1997," p. 24: "Nicholas Rayannic, a former South Scranton resident, died Monday at the Mountain Rest Nursing Home, where he was a guest for several years. He was the husband of the former Vera Konish, who died Nov. 9, 1981. Born in Jessup, son of the late Max and Olga Maciosky Rayannic, he was employed as an orderly by the Scranton State Hospital, prior to retirement. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Orthodox Church. Surviving are a daughter, Judy Jones, Harrisburg; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Michael, Meshoppen, and Walter, Lake Winola; a sister, Ann Pregmon, Old Forge; nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph J. Sznyter Funeral Home, 1101 Prospect Ave., with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Orthodox Church, Jefferson Avenue. Interment, parish cemetery, Taylor."

He was born in Surry, November 28, 1931, the son of Oscar L. and Clara (Fenderson) Saunders. Clifton served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He worked for the State of Maine Dept. of Transportation, Ellsworth Builders Supply and as a mechanic and licensed inspector of passenger and commercial vehicles. Clifton enjoyed bowling, ice fishing, camping, gardening, being on his tractor, and carpentry, which he did for all his family and did building projects. He is survived by his partner of 33 years, Judy Hale; sons, Edward Saunders and wife Laurie, Alden 'Buddy' Saunders and wife Jennifer; daughter, Deborah Saunders; sister, Doris Ginn all of Surry; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Anita (Clark)."
