[51235] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 2 July 2014": "Stonington - Elwell Eaton Hutchinson, 86, on June 25, 2014, with his family by his side, made his journey to be with the Lord. Elwell was born Nov. 27, 1927, on Little Deer Isle. He attended school in Deer Isle. At the age of 17, he left Little Deer Isle to attend the U.S. Maritime Academy in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated in 1945. That year he took part in the Macys Day Parade in New York City. He served as a merchant seaman until the end of World War II. He then was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he served in Germany and France. After being discharged, Elwell became a lifetime member of the American Legion No. 102 and was also a lifelong member of the RLDS Church of Sunset in Deer Isle. On March 17, 1951, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Rice of Stonington. He was a man who loved all creatures big and small. He was never seen without a fuzzy friend by his side. Working outdoors and watching the Red Sox and Patriots were among some of his favorite things to do. Elwell was always a devoted and loving family man and will be sadly missed by all of his family, friends and furry friends. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his two daughters, Donna Brewer and her husband, Marsden, Rita Oliver and her husband, Scott; six grandchildren, Randy Shepard and wife, Sandra, Jennifer Mayo and husband, Scott, Bobby Brewer, Lindsey Carter and husband, Jeremy, Lucas and Mason Oliver. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerauld and wife, Rhea; sister-in-law, Wylma Shepard; many nieces and nephews; a foster daughter, Pat Hutchinson; his dogs, Rosa and Sam; and his cats, Dolly and Alvin; also his dearest friend, Dowe Eaton. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Flossie Hutchinson; his brothers, Edward and Walter Jr.; and his sister, Hazel Stevens."

[5962] BetFoster1@aol.com shared in June, 2003: "Margaret Winslow is a daughter of Edward; being the daughter of his first wife. Her mother was Eleanor Pelham, and Margaret had two brothers by Eleanor and Edward - one was Richard Winslow and one Josiah. That is why references to Margaret usually say she was sister to the Winslow brothers. Robert Hicks, born 1580 married Margaret Winslow. Robert's father was James Hicks, born 1550; his mother was Phebe Allyne, born 1557. Baptist Hicks born 1524 was Robert's grandfather and Mary Evarts his grandmother born 1528. Thomas Hicks was Robert's great grandfather, born 1487, and Margaret Atwood his great grandmother born ____. John Hicks (there were two John Hicks), was his great great grandfather, born 1455 and Joan Damer was Robert's great grandmother, born 1459. So - James was the father of Robert Hicks; Baptist was the father of James and Thomas was the father of Baptist and the son of John Hicks and Joan Damer. Now to go on to Baptist Hicks of Chipping Campden, born 1551, died 1629; his father was another Robert Hicks, born 1518 and mother was Julia Arthur, born 1520. Baptist had 5 brothers and only 1 lived until 1612. Baptist's grandfather was John Hicks, born 1477 and his grandmother was Joan Darnley. His great grandfather was John Hicks, born 1455 and his great grandmother was Joan Damer born 1459. Baptist Hicks bought the Chipping Campden property in 1624 from Sir Thomas Smythe (who was also listed as a Treasurer at Jamestown) but he was not born or brought up in that town. He died in 1629 and left his property to daughter Julian. However, we are descended from both and I shall let you figure it all out. We certainly must at least be descended to John Hicks and Joan Damer." Margaret Winslow is remembered as the first woman teacher in America; her brothers were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620. For Margaret's wardrobe see"The Mayflower Quarterly, Vol. 81, No. 3" (Plymouth, MA: The General Society of Mayflower Descendants), p. 231.
