'Punch' Briner, 91, of Blain passed away on Saturday, Aug. 18 2012, at Holy Spirit Hospital. David was born June 7, 1921, in Blain to the late Harry and Myrtle (Hockenberry) Briner. He served his country during World War II in the European Theatre of Operation. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge, D-Day and the Crossing of the Rhine. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was retired from the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot, was a heavy equipment operator, crane operator, mechanic and farmer. He said he enjoyed those jobs so much that he never worked a day in his life. He was also the owner of Briner's Kennels; raising mostly beagles. In addition to training hunting dogs, he trained and boarded horses. He was a member of the Adams Lodge 319 F&AM, New Bloomfield, Legion Post 945 and VFW Post 15040. Surviving are a son, David E. Briner and a daughter, Diane B. Thorn, both of Blain; four foster children, Anna Mae Zimmerman, Nancy Milisevic, Clyde Smith and Lawrence Smith; 10 grandchildren, including Lauren Loughran, Andrew Thorn, Jesse Briner, Lorraine Briner, Sierra Briner, Doug Briner; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Henry) Briner; and five siblings, Iva Garlin, Dale Briner, Ruth Gutshall, Miles Briner and Grace Valentine."

He was preceded in death by his wife to whom he was married 62 years, Janet E. (Ritter) Davis on March 11, 2006, a sister, Donna Davis and a brother, Frank S. Davis. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a retired inspector for the PA Department of Labor & Industry. He also had been employed at the former C. H. Masland & Sons in Carlisle from 1946 to 1966 and Home Insurance Company until 1983. John was a member of Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church, Past Master and 62 year member of Adams Lodge 319 F&AM, New Bloomfield, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon - Juniata Valley Forest 88, Perry-Juniata Shrine Club, Newport Royal Arch Chapter 238, Zembo Legion of Honor, Zembo Luncheon Club, NRA and Ickesburg Sportsmans Club. He was an avid outdoorsman (hunter and fisherman) and loved going to camp Lookout in Potter County. Surviving are his two daughters, Jayne Peters and her husband Barry of Shermans Dale, Susan Boldosser, Carlisle, three grandchildren, Michael Peters, Jennifer Lamason, David Boldosser and four great-grandchildren. . . ."

Born Oct. 30, 1913, in Mifflintown, she was daughter of the late Harry and Margaret (Kauffman) Zeiders. She was a member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school; a retired licensed practical nurse, and was retired from the Harrisburg State Hospital. Mrs. Briner also was a member of the New Bloomfield Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. The widow of Frank A. Briner Sr., she is survived by two sons, Frank A. Briner Jr. and John H. Briner, both of New Bloomfield; a daughter, Doreen Frymoyer of Liverpool; two sisters, Evelyn Briner of New Bloomfield and Marion Hostetter of Carlisle, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Zeiders."
