[679] Isabella was daughter and heiress of William Aslacton; the family had held for generations the manor from which they derived their name, under the Lords Deincourt. The family probably descends from Walchelin, the mesne tenant of Walter de Aincourt at Aslacton in the Domesday Book. They also held early on under the baronial family of Newmarch lands in Hawksworth and Whatton (part of the Domesday fee of Gilbert de Ghent). They were important local people - Simon de Aslacton was high sheriff of the counties of Nottingham and Derby in 1259 and 1260, and his descendant Reginald de Aslacton served in Parliament as a Knight of these shires in 1344. {ref.: "Genealogical Memoirs of the Extinct Family of Chester of Ehichly," Robert Edmon Chester Waters (London: Robson & Sons, 1878), p. 367ff..}

[21380] Parents of Rurik are NOT PROVEN to my satisfaction, but are as given by http://www.genpc.com/gen/files/d0038/f0000001.html#I498 in 2003. http://www.umkc.edu/imc/oldrussia.htm states "862---Rurik and a group of related families arrive in Novgorod and the area becomes the "land of the Rus." These rulers are possibly invading Vikings from Sweden. Their chief business is trade with Byzantium. They drag their boats overland to the headwaters of the Dnieper, congregate in Kiev in June, wait for the spring floods to subside, set sail in huge convoys, and brave a 60-kilometer stretch of rapids and cataracts that is vulnerable to ambush by local tribesmen. From there, the way to the Black Sea is easy." Also see http://www.friesian.com/russia.htm#kiev and http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/RUSSIA,%20Rurik.htm.
