[15408] living - details excluded
Peggy Kenko posted this on Ancestry.com in 2010:
Christian Burkholder's Parents, Siblings and Personal Life
From The Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online (GAMEO) Burkholder, Christian (1746-1809) Christian Burkholder, (born 1 June 1746, died 13 May 1809), an outstanding Mennonite (Mennonite Church) bishop of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, was the son of Christian Burkholder, Sr., of Gerolsheim in the Palatinate, a prominent leader who did much to aid his afflicted brethren in the Upper Rhine area. While preparing for the emigration to Pennsylvania the elder Burkholder died (March 1755), leaving a widow with six small children, the oldest being Christian, Jr., then aged nine. [Burkholder's parentage is disputed in later research; his father is most commonly determined to be Ulrich Burkholder who also died before emigration. See SAGA reference.] The brave woman managed the voyage (then a difficult enterprise), and settled (1755) in Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Christian grew up during the French and Indian War in this new Mennonite community which his father had partly planned and visualized. Before the Revolutionary War Christian married Anna Groff (died 13 November 1795), a granddaughter of the pioneer Hans Groff. They made their farmstead home north of Farmersville. He was a brother of Peter Burkholder (the father of the later bishop, Peter Burkholder, of Virginia) and of Ulrich Burkholder, preacher at Bowmansville. He himself was a successful preacher and the father of eight children.

This comment was appended by another person:
The GAMEO article above indicates that there is some confusion about the parents of Bishop Christian Burkholder. For many years his father was believed to be Christian Burkholder of Gerolsheim, Germany. In 1980 Christian Burkholder's Martyr' Mirror was found. In this book he wrote his name, birthdate, and the names and birth years of his siblings: Barbara b. 1734; Anna, b. 1735; Ulrich, b. 1737; Elizabeth, b. 1740; Peter, b. 1743; Christian b. June i, 1746. He was the youngest, rather than the oldes child in the family. The names and ages of these children match exactly with the family of Ulrich and Barbara Burkholder in a 1745 tax list in the Jura area of Switzerland. The matching of these two documents on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean prove that Christian's father was Ulrich Burkholder (born in Ruderswil, Switzerland) and his mother was Barbara. Also, the Christian Burkholder of Gerolsheim, Germany, who was believed to be the father of immigrant Christian, appears on a list of Mennonites in Gerolsheim in 1759 with a wife Gertrud and four children. The fact that he was still living in Germany after the widow Burkholder and her six childrn immigrated proves he cannot be the father of immigrant Christian. The widow, Barbara, and her six children immigrated directly from Switzerland and never lived in Germany. Her name appears on a list of Mennonites in the Jura making plans to emigrate in 1754. Her son, Ulrich, was above the age of 16 and signed the Phoenix ship list when they arrived in Philadelphia on Oct. 1, 1754.
[51432] Clara is daughter of Alonzo Morse (1838-1886) & Hannah Frances Anderson (1842-1907; m. 4 August 1858 in Steuben, Washington Co., ME).
