The young man, who is a graduate of the Shamokin High School, just completed a transport pilot's course m the Parks Air College at East St. Louis in Illinois. Fifteen months ago he matriculated in the school and completed his work last week with high honors. The many friends of the young man hope that he may enjoy success in his chosen profession. He will remain here for several days prior to accepting his new position in New York City"

"The "News-Item [Shamokin, Pennsylvania], 20 July 1977," p. 8: "Bernard Dutt (Dutcavich), 5808 Fifth Road South, Arlington, Va. and a native of Shamokin, died Friday morning at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Shamokin, the son of the late John and Agnes Casper Dutcavich and attended Shamokin Schools. Dutt was a graduate of Park Air College, St. Louis, Mo. and was a flight instructor at Shamokin, Danville and Sunbury airports until he left the area in 1941. He was a retired captain with United Airlines, Washington, D.C. Surviving are his wife, the former Leona Sommerday, formerly of Shamokin; a brother, Vincent, of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Jr.; a brother, John, and a sister, Mary Wardrop. Funeral services and interment were held Tuesday in Arlington."

Noyes, 75, beloved husband of Ruth (Morgan) Noyes, died Sept. 23, 1995, at his Caribou residence after a brief illness. He was born at Limestone, June 12, 1920, the son of Linwood E. and Marcia (Finnemore) Noyes. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served as a sergeant in the Pacific theater and was involved in the battles for New Guinea and the Philippines. A potato farmer for more than 40 years, he farmed on the Grimes Road in Caribou, retiring in 1975. After retirement, he became an avid gardener, well known for his bountiful vegetable harvests and his beautiful flower gardens. Active in civic and veteran's affairs, he was a charter member of the Caribou Growers and a member of the Lister-Knowlton Post VFW No. 9389 of Caribou. He was a lifelong member of the Limestone United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of Caribou; two sons, retired Lt. Col. Paul Noyes and his wife, Betty of Atlanta, Ga., Kimber Noyes and his wife, Cynthia of Woodland; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Brenda) Curtis of Caribou; one sister, Mrs. Willis (Marjorie Noyes) Sewell of Caribou; four grandchildren, Christopher and Shari Noyes of Atlanta, Tristan and Jonathan Noyes of Woodland. He was predeceased by one brother, Preston Noyes. . . . Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Advent Cemetery, Limestone." and "Departed Caribou, Maine to enter the U.S. Army at Fort Devens, MA December 26, 1942. Basic training with the 505th Field Artillery and later 505th Antiaircraft Battalion at Fort Eustis, VA. Temporarily assigned to Midland Radio School, Athens, GA prior to reassignment with the 505th at Camp Stewart, GA. Training at Camp Stewart included temporary duty at Lakeland Naval Air Station, FL. First furlough occurred Oct 43 between assignments to the radio school and Camp Stewart. Reassigned to Camp Cook, Salinas, CA with the 505th. Temporary duty at Bakersfield and San Diego, CA prior to second furlough Mar 44. Upon return from furlough, reported to Fort Ord, CA and shipped out of Camp Stoneman, Pittsburg, California for Finchaven, New Guinea. Rest camp at Melborne and Sydney, Australia for Christmas 1944. Shipped after Christmas with the HQ 6th Army to Hollandia, New Guinea and on to Leyte, Philippines. After the Battle of Leyte, shipped to Lingayen Gulf on the island of Luzon. Promoted to the rank of Corporal at this time. After securing the Gulf, fought over land to Clark Field, Manila. Air Force bombed Clark and ground troops used craters to attack walled city of Manila. Was part of the force that secured Manila. Trained with 503d Regimental Combat Team paratroopers jumping out of rear of trucks and watching films of jump training. Practiced jumping from C-47 aircraft prior to shipping to Iloilo on the island of Panay. Operated amphibious carriers off the islands of Panay and Guimaras. Was on several small islands prior to shipping to the island of Negros and the capital city of Bacolod. After Negros, he shipped back to Borneo and then back to Panay. Promotion to Sergeant occurred at this time. They were then on their way to Japan for the invasion when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They landed at Yokohama, Japan and encountered no further hostilities through the end of the war. Came home on the USS Admiral Hugh Rodman, a converted luxury liner with the "luxury taken out" departing Japan December 21, 1945 and arriving San Francisco. Discharged at Fort Devens January 13, 1946. Army buddies included Bill Hartman and Lewis Cua from Columbus, Ohio; James Lawson and Robert E. Darcey from Kentucky; and Russell Clark from Lubeck, Maine. Sergeants Wittenbend and Schlosser were two of the better NCOs. Captain Cagney was Company Commander through most of service tour and Lieutenant, later Captain, Madden was well liked and later became Company Commander. Upon his return, he and his father began looking for a new farm and settled on a Grimes Road, Caribou farm on the original land lot #81 in March. Throughout that month they renovated and painted the farmhouse before moving there in April. Clayton and Ruth also lived there and had son Paul in November of that year. In the spring of 1948 Clayton and Ruth began the purchase of their farm on the original land lot #80 for $3,000. Son, Kimber was born Sep 1950 and daughter Brenda in May 1953. Clayton farmed on Grimes road until retiring in 1975. He continued to grow garden crops which he sold by the roadside for many years."
