[51875] "The Ellsworrth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 17 September 2017": "Verona Island - On Sept. 22, 2017, Marilyn Ruth Carter, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully at her home on Verona Island. She was born on Jan. 27, 1940, to Ross and Anita (Connors) Allison of Bucksport. After graduating from Bucksport High School, Marilyn married her husband of 58 years, R. Paul Carter of Surry, on June 20, 1959. Marilyn and Paul always felt that their greatest accomplishment was raising their four wonderful children and sharing the duties of running their two businesses, Carters Garage of Millvale and Fort View Variety of Verona Island. Marilyn was a very strong, loving person, who was always concerned with the well-being of both her family and friends: this loving spirit was evident during the many years she helped with the care of her sister, Carole Warren. Her strength and impeccable character impressively pulled her through a battle against pancreatic cancer in 2005, a battle which, against frightening odds, she valiantly won. Throughout this entire ordeal, she remained positive, often during the low points acting as a support to those who loved her. Marilyns interests were plentiful, and she was seldom idle, always thinking of the next project she might undertake. A chance to spend time with family always came first, but she also enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, eating out with family or 'The Girls,' visiting Disney, winters in Florida and the many friends she and Paul made there, knitting, sewing, painting and artfully decorating cakes. Children always held a special place in her heart, which was evident whenever a grandchild or great-grandchild would pay her a visit. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Ross and Anita Allison, her sister, Carole (Allison) Warren; and her brother Gilbert Allison. She is survived by her husband Paul; two sons, Reggie and his wife, Nancy, and Larry and his girlfriend, Kateryna Clark; and two daughters, Allyson Sucy and her husband, Larry, and Lori Carter. She also leaves behind a brother, Steven Allison, and his wife, Kathy; a sister, Sharon Gaff, and her husband, Burnie, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews."
