[27182] Lin Wright in Kent-L Archives in RootsWeb 5 Sept 1998 states that John came "to Dedham MA 1645; to Charlestown 1673; freeman 1654; not son of Richard (see NEXUS June 1986)." The genealogy of the next two generations is from this posting, which cites Briggs, L. Vernon, "Genealogies of the Different Families ...Kent ..."(1898) and Dale, E.I., & Kent, E.E. "History and Genealogy of the [Richard] Kent Family." Ancestry.com offers: "Kent Name Meaning - English: habitational name for someone from Kent, an ancient Celtic name. The surname is also frequent in Scotland and Ireland. In Irrerwick in East Lothian English vassals were settled in the middle of the 12th century and in Meath in Ireland in the 13th century."
