[55975] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 10 August 2015: "Orland - Stuart E. Saunders passed away Thursday August 6, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Orland on February 15, 1933 the only child of George and Bernice (Smith) Saunders. Stuart served in the USAF on the Crash Fire Rescue Team at Pease Air Force Base as well as Dow Air Force Base in Bangor. After serving in the military he worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for many years where he was well known as the local telephone man. In the 1970's he and his family owned and operated Stu's Miniature Golf and Fish-Ing in Orland. Upon retiring he began his own telephone business with two of his sons, David and Dana. He also would volunteer his time with his bucket truck to help decorate the telephone poles on Main Street in Bucksport at Christmas time. After a few years he turned S.E.S. COM over to his sons and made gardening his full time hobby. He loved working in his gardens and selling his vegetables from a stand on the Castine Road as well as collecting sap in the spring to make maple syrup. Stuart is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dallis K. (Sutherland) Saunders, he also leaves five sons and their wives; Richard and Lisa of Alabama, David and Lorraine of Orland, Dana and Sandy of Vassalboro, Rusty and Paulette of Bucksport, Danny and Jen of Bucksport; and one daughter Robin and her husband Bobby Wardwell of Orland along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom had the opportunity to learn many things from Bamp, they also enjoyed Bamp as Santa Clause. In addition to his parents, Stuart was predeceased by his best friend Dana (Hutch) Hutchins."
