[49503] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 22 June 2015": "Ellsworth - Norma S. Beal, 84, died June 19, 2015, at her home after a brief illness. She was born July 3, 1930, in Ellsworth the daughter of Thomas C. and Esther L. (Woodman) Smith. Norma graduated from Ellsworth High School and Westbrook Junior College. She married Sheldon (Ted) Beal, May 24, 1949, and they owned and operated Beals Jewelry & Gift Shop together for 68 years. Norma in her early years was an active member of the community. She was involved in promoting the downtown businesses throughout her life. Norma was a member and past president of the Rotary-Anns Club, which was part of the Rotary Club of Ellsworth. She was past member and a Sunday school teacher of the Ellsworth Congregational Church. Norma enjoyed playing bridge and was an excellent painter. She had a very special fondness for the Senator Hale Hose Company that all her family members had been involved in. She and her sister Barbara used to make and take sandwiches and coffee to the firefighters during a fire. The community of Ellsworth was where Norma was born, lived and died; it was the central part of her life along with her family. Norma is survived by sons, Gary S. Beal of Surry, Lloyd F. Beal and wife Karen E. of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Ben Beal and wife Jenn, Kate Beal, all of Ellsworth, Gregory Beal of Surry; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Joey and Gracie of Ellsworth; niece, Thelma Beal, of Ellsworth; nephews, Richard Beal of Cranberry Isles, and Richard Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, Sheldon; siblings, Hazel, Bob, Ralph, Thelma and Barbara."
