Thomas (age 13) is shown with his parents in the 1850 federal census in Richland Co., OH; the family is Thomas Tucker (38, farmer, b. in OH), Sarah Tucker (39, wife, b. in PA), James (17, farmer, b. in OH), Thomas, Sarah (11), John (9), Maria (7), David (5) and Martha (3) - in the 1870 census, James Tucker (37) still r. with this parents and is a carpenter. Ancestry.com offers: "Tucker Name Meaning - English (chiefly southwestern England and South Wales): occupational name for a fuller, from an agent derivative of Middle English tuck(en) to full cloth (Old English tucian to torment). This was the term used for the process in the Middle Ages in southwestern England, and the surname is more common there than elsewhere. . . . Possibly also an Americanized form of German Tucher, from an occupational name for a cloth maker or merchant, from an agent derivative of Middle High German tuoch cloth."
