Augustus' line is from the 2020 unverified Steward Family Tree in Ancestry.com which states he is son of Frederick Schmerfeld (1848-1920) and Anna Elizabeth Brandaur (1849-1928). "Standard-Speaker [Hazleton, PA], 14 July 1958," p. 8: "August Paul Schmerfeld, 74, 536 East Chestnut street, died at 6:58 p. m. yesterday at the Hazleton State Hospital. He was ill four weeks. A retired carpenter for the Haddock Mining Co., he was the son of the late Frederick and Anna Brandier Schmerfeld. He lived in McAdoo and Mahanoy City before coming to this city 17 years ago. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, McAdoo; the Haddock Local 2168, U.M.W., and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers 854, Delano. His wife, Catherine, nee Neifert, died December 28, 1946. Surviving are the following children: Paul, Stockdale, Ariz.; Miss Ruth Schmerfeld, at home; Howard, McAdoo Heights, and Mrs. Alverda Kuhen, Free Bridges, N.J. Six grandchildren, a brother, John, Grier City; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Heckman, Quakake, also survive."
