Son till Olof III Skötkonung och Estrid och blev sin faders medregent 1019. Efter faderns död 1022 regerade han ensam. Han slöt förbund med sin svåger Olav Haraldsson av Norge och härjade Skåne tillsammans med honom. Även mot andra nordiska kungar var han välvillig och hjälpte till när han kunde. Stred bla tillsammans med Olav Haraldsson mot Knut den Store av Danmark och England vid slaget vid Helg å i Uppland 1027. För sina stränga räfsters skull kallades han på 1040-talet för Anund Kolbränna. Dog sotdöden i Husaby och ligger troligen begravd där, alternativt i Linköping eller kanske rentutav på Åralövsgården två km öster om Vinslöv. Gift med Gunhild Haraldsdotter, död efter 1050.
