[10838] Cf. http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/continent/op/oldenburg2.htm for his ancestry. http://www.btinternet.com/~allan_raymond/German_Kingdoms.htm reports: "The Counts of Oldenburg can be traced back to Count Egilmar (died 1108). Count Christian of Oldenburg (1425-1481) was elected King Christian I of Denmark (in 1448) by the Danish Nobility becoming King of Norway (in 1450) and later King of Sweden (in 1457). Schleswig and Holstein were acquired by Christian I from his mother Heilwige or 'Hedwig' (sister and heiress of Count Adolph VIII of Holstein and Duke of Schleswig) and in 1460 he issued a declaration that Schleswig and Holstein should always be united even though Schleswig was a Danish province whilst Holstein was technically part of The Holy Roman Empire. Holstein was elevated to a Duchy on 14 February 1474. Christian I assigned Oldenburg to his brother Gerhard. Following the death of Gerhard's childless great great grandson Anthony Gunther in 1667, Oldenburg reverted to Denmark and it became a Duchy on 29 December 1775 followed by elevation to Grand Ducal status on 9 June 1815. Christian I was succeeded as King of Denmark by his son John (1455-1513) and later by his other son Frederick I (1471-1533)." http://www.warholm.nu/Kingdan.html offers: "After Adolf of Slesvig in 1448 had rejected the Danish crown, it was offered to Kristian in September the same year. In return he married King Christoffer's widow. He was crowned in Copenhagen 28 of October 1449, elected in southern Norway in June 1449, crowned in Trondheim, Autumn 1449. Took over all of Norway from Carl Knutsson in May 1450. In 1457 he was asked to become King of Sweden and was crowned in Uppsala 3 of July 1457. In 1459 he became Duke of Slesvig and Count of Holstein. He was deposed in Sweden in 1464. He died on May 21, 1481 in Copenhagen. Married 26 of October 1459 to Queen Dowager Dorotea. Children: Didrik, Knud, Hans, Margareta (1456-1487) Queen of Scotland, Fredrik I (1471-1533) King of Denmark and Norway." Cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_I_of_Denmark.

[53087] David is said to be son of James Doughty (1680-1760) & Mary Robinson (1685-1772; m. 10 April 1707 in Lewiston, Androscoggin Co., ME). Find A Grave memorial 241484881 offers: "Lewiston Evening Journal (Lewiston, Maine), Saturday, January 7, 1899, Page 32. Excerpt from an article in the Lewiston, Maine, Evening Journal, posted under the banner: 'On Maines Historic Ground' [sic] which discusses Maine's cemeteries. The 'old' cemetery at New Meadows, Maine with its Graves of Leading Pioneers of Brunswick, is currently known in the Find a Grave Website as the Gatchell Cemetery. There is a 'newer' cemetery adjacent to this 'old' cemetery known in Find a Grave as the New Meadows Cemetery. There are many graves in this old yard, referring to the Gatchell Cemetery, marked with ordinary field stones. Among the unmarked graves in this yard is one of David Douty, a son of James, a pioneer and proprietor of ancient Falmouth. David married Elizabeth [sic...other research shows David married Sarah Gatchell, daughter of Captain John Gatchell]. There are no grave stones to the earliest Douty family, but without doubt, they are buried in this cemetery. Tradition so says, and is probably correct. David Douty was a Louisburg soldier in 1745, and received a grant of land for this service, which was located in the present town of Standish, Maine. He soon sold it and took the money to add to his improvements in Brunswick, Maine. David Douty reared a considerable family. He died several years before his wife, Elizabeth [sic] who was living as late as 1803, when she gave valuable depositions before the court concerning some of the the earliest affairs of Brunswick. The depositions of Mrs. Douty and her brothers are in the court house, Portland, Maine. David Douty, born about 1720, Falmouth, Maine; a Revolutionary War soldier, [DAR Ancestor No. A033406]; spouse: Sarah Gatchell."
