[2698] Bernard was born in middle of 9th and died in 2nd quarter of tenth century; descended from a King of Denmark and perhaps closely related to Rollo; second in command to Rollo during invasion of France and received as his share the Lordship of Harcourt and the present Departments of Mayenne, Orne and Sarthe; after Rollo's death Bernard became Regent and chief councillor of Rollo's son William "Longsword" (q.v.) and subsequent guardian of his grandson during his minority. {ref.: "The Beaumonts in History, A.D. 850-1850," Edward T. Beaumont, Oxford, England, 1929, typescript at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, used 6/87 by AEM} Homer James (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f030.htm#I1414X1 in 2003) shares: There is a detailed pedigree of the Harcourt Family of Normandy in Table XI. in Crispin and Macary, and also pages 14 and 93-94. Refer to Burke, pg. 261-262. The following material from Crispin and Macary (pg. 14) was derived from G. A. La Roque, "Hist. Geneal. Maison de Harcourt" and other sources: "Errand de Harcourt. This family is one of the most illustrious in both France and England. Errand is mentioned by La Roque, the French historian of this great house, Pere Anselm, and other genealogists, as the personage referred to by Wace which reads "sire de Herervourt was there also, riding a very swift horse." They are supported in this conclusion by Le Prevost, as he favors Anchetil, the father of Errand, or Robert, his younger brother. The burden of opinion is, however, against this eminent historian. Turquetil, seigneur de Turqueville, and de Tanqueraye, about 1001, appears in several charters concerning the abbeys of Fecamp and Bernay. He was lord of Neufmarche-en-Lions, governor of the boy duke, William, and was treacherously assassinated between 1035 and 1040 by hirelings of Raoul de Gace. Turquetil was the second son of Torf, the son of Bernard the Dane, which latter was governor and regent of Normandy in 912, from whom descended the sires de Beaumont, comtes de Meulent, the barons of Cacelles and Saint-Pare, the lords of Gournay and Milly, the barons of Neubourg, the vicomtes of Evereux, the Earls of Leicester, and many other noble French and English houses. Turquetil married Anceline, sister of Toustain, seigneur de Montfort-sur-Risle, and had issue: Anchetil, and Walter de Lescelina who married Beatrice, abbess of Montivilliers, natural daughter of Robert I., Duke of Normandy, as well as Leceline de Turqueville, the wife of William, comte d'Exmes (later(d'Eu), an illegitimate son on the same duke. Anchetil was the first to assume the name of Harcourt from the bourg of Harcourt, near Brionne, and married Eve de Boessey-le-Chapel, by whom he had seven sons and one daughter. The eldest was Errand, who predeceased his father, and was succeeded by Robert as head of the house. Jean, Arnoul, Gervais, Yves, and Renauld were the other sons. Errand de Harcourt commanded the archers of Val de Ruel at the battle of Hastings, but returned to Normandy in 1078 and probably died soon after. His younger brother, Robert, who accompanied him to the conquest, was the ancestor of this distinguished family." For this line also see "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), pp. 16ff. Cf. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_le_Danois.

[13757] He was known as Stanley. "Shamokin News-Dispatch [Shamokin, PA], 27 November 1953," p. 1: "An illness that dated back more than seven months ended in death at 5:45 Wednesday afternoon for R. Stanley Seiler, church organist, business man and widely known citizen, at his home, 28 West Lincoln Street. Mr. Seiler had been in seemingly good health until last April when he was stricken suddenly ill. He failed to respond to medical treatment and In May entered Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, where he subsequently submitted to a serious operation, performed by the noted Dr. Kenneth Pry. He regained his strength sufficiently to return home in June, but was unable to resume his accustomed business and social activities. He had been invalided for the most time since then at his cottage on Hoover's Island and in his home on West Lincoln Street. A week ago his condition took an especially serious turn and he failed steadily until the end came Wednesday. Robert Stanley Seiler was born in Shamokin August 27, 1891, and had been a life long resident of the community. His father was the late Daniel G. Seiler, a pioneer settler of Shamokin and who for many years operated a successful wholesale produce business here. His mother was Jemima (Weicksel) Seiler. He attended Shamokln public schools, entered Shamokin High School in 1905 and was graduated from that institution four years later with top honors in his class. Upon his graduation he received a scholarship to Colgate University, but illness overtook him and he was unable to avail himself of the educational opportunity. Later he pursued studies at a business school in Lancaster and upon his return here was associated with various business enterprises until 1918 when he entered the employ of the J. H. & C. K. Eagle Silk Manufacturing Company. In 1921 Mr. Seiler became assoclated with his brother, Walter Seiler, in the operation of the Empire Vulcanizing Company, local agents for Firestone Tire Company, and had continued in the position of business manager for the firm until the time of his fatal illness. From early youth Mr. Seiler displayed a rare talent for music and was gifted as a pianist, organist and instrumentalist. He was quick to master the pipe organ and at the of 15 accepted the post of organist at Trinity Lutheran Chuch on East Sunbury Street, succeeding his brother, the late Herbert Seiler. In March of 1924 he transferred to St. John Reformed Church, Eighth Street, as organist, and continued in that capacity until stricken ill last April. Several years ago Mr. Seiler took on the duties of choir director as well as organist and thereafter directed St. John choir in the presentation of many notable cantatas end oratories. These programs were of unusually high order and attracted music lovers from many areas. Mr. Seiler was affiliated for many years with 'Our Band' during the period when it was sponsored by the J. H. & C. K. Eagle Company. His brother, Walter Seiler, was a longtime director of the band, having retired from that post a number of years ago. At one time the four Seiler brothers were members of the band, Walter, Victor, Herbert and R. Stanley. Fraternally, Mr. Seiler was a member of Lodge 255, Free and Accepted Masons and the Temple Club. He was also a member of St. John Reformed Church. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Erma Zanker, two brothers, Walter and Victor, and one sister, Mrs. Alma Greenman, all of Shamokin."
