"Ben's military career spanned a period of 25 years, from early 1944 to when he retired in September 1968. Except for a three year tour of duty at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, the rest of the time was spent on sea duty. He served in three wars, World War Two (WW2), The Korean Conflict and two tours of duty in Viet Nam. His travels during his career has taken him to just about every country in the world.
