Larry passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Larry was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Mansfield to the late Clifford and Gladys Heichel Wharton. He was a staff sergeant in WW II, serving at the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and in the Philippines. Until his retirement in 1995, he was employed at Dominion, Mansfield Tire, and Sherwin-Williams. He was always a loving, giving, and humorous father, husband, brother and friend. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lundgren Wharton, whom he married Nov. 13, 1947; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara (Lester) Tucker, and Debra (Thomas) Cowell; three sons and daughters-in-law, David, Gary (Pam), and Mark (Diane) Wharton, all of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don and Jerry Wharton; and two sisters, Evangeline Yarman, and Lillian Conard. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard; brother Carl; and sister, Eleanor. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home, conducted by Father John Brennen. Military graveside will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail."

"The News Leader [Staunton, Virginia], 3 July 1987," p. 2: "Waynesboro - Elder Robert Franklin Woods, 95, formerly of Waynesboro, died 3:40 p.m. Wednesday (July 1, 1987) In Blue Ridge Christian Home, Stuarts Draft. He was born April 28, 1892 in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Thomas A. and Louella (Fisher) Woods. He attended schools in Davenport and later served in executive capacities of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nashville, Tenn., and Charlotte, N.C. He moved to Staunton in 1938, where be built and pastored the first Seventh Day Adventist Church in town. He later served churches in Lynchburg, Hampton, Waynesboro and Alexandria. In 1946, he organized the Waynesboro Seventh Day Adventist Church and served as its pastor from 1946-1951. Following retirement Nov. 1, 1957, he returned to Waynesboro where he served as pastor emeritus of the Waynesboro church. His first wife, Gertrude Ann (Doolittle) Woods, died in December I960, and his second wife, Cora Evelyn (Wells) Woods, In November 1983. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Paul A. of Waynesboro and R. Donald Woods of Takoma Park, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Ann Woodruff of Shreveaport, La.; 19 grandchildren; and a number of greatgrandchildren. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Sunday in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home by Elder William L. Woodruff, with burial in Riverview Cemetery."
