'Willelmus filius Ingelrami dominus de Fielnes" donated property to Andres, with the consent of "uxore mea Agnete et filio meo Ingelramno", by charter dated 1 Jan 1203 witnessed by "Radulfo de Fielnes patruo meo . . .Joanne de Tingri . . . ". The Testa de Nevill includes a writ of King John dated 1212 which records that "Willelmus de Fienes" held "manerium de Mortok que fuit de dominico regis de dono comitis Willelmi filii Reginaldi filii Stephani qui manerium predictum dedit [Faramo] de Bolonia pro servicio i militis" in Somerset. m AGNES de Dammartin, daughter of AUBRY [II] Comte de Dammartin & his wife Mathilde de Clermont-en-Beauvaisis. "Willelmus filius Ingelrami dominus de Fielnes" donated property to Andres, with the consent of "uxore mea Agnete et filio meo Ingelramno", by charter dated 1 Jan 1203 witnessed by "Radulfo de Fielnes patruo meo . . . Joanne de Tingri . . . ". Her parentage and marriage are indicated by an enquiry in 1267 which adjudged property of "Philippus olim comes Bolonie et...Matildis' to 'Matheus comes Domni-Martini, domini Guillelmus de Fienes, Baldoinus de Fienes, Michael de Fienes, Ingerannus de Pinquegniaco et Renaudus de Pinquegniaco, heredes comitisse Matildis Bolonie". Guillaume & his wife had six children . . .

Stickney, Kinsman (1876), p. 105 reports that William "graduated from Claverack Academy, Claverack, Columbia County, N.Y., about 1857; studied law; admitted to practice in Council Bluffs, Ia.; when the war broke out, joined the army, rose to the rank of Colonel in the 23rd Iowa Infantry, and fell in battle near Vicksburg, Miss., May 18, 1863, in Grant's army." Find A Grave memorial 12604 offers a fine photo of him and states: "Civil War Union Army Officer. Born in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, Canada, he came to Iowa in 1854 and worked as a lawyer in Council Bluffs until the Civil War broke out in April 1861. Enlisting in the Union Army, he was appointed as Major of the 23rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and by 1862 had been promoted to Colonel and commander of the regiment. He was killed in action near Vicksburg, Mississippi during the Vicksburg Campaign while leading his regiment in an assault on Confederate positions along the Black River. Originally interred on the battlefield, he was re-interred in his hometown of Council Bluffs, and a fitting monument was erected over his grave."

He "served his time" seven years with Colonel John Plaisted and settled near what became South Berwick Junction where he r. the rest of his life. He was a Selectman and served on numerous committees and was one of the original proprieters of Lebanon. 16 Sept. 1725 he was chosen Deacon of the Congregational Church, serving 36 years.
