He was also a working newspaperman for 10 years. He was the son of Carrie T. Whitcomb, who was still living at the time of his death according to his obituary. At Ancestry.com, the Massachusetts, Birth Records, 1840-1915 series indicates he is the son of George L. Whitcomb and Carrie L. Whiting. He married Fannie A. Loud in Cambridge, June 26, 1911. He was the father of Mrs. Carrie Mae (William) Andersen/Anderson, Mrs. Dorothy M. (William) Nash, and Miss Frances L. Whitcomb. Mr. Whitcomb's obituaries may be found in The Boston Globe, October 21, 1938, page 21 (includes a photo).
