[30723] "Wisconsin State Journal [Madison, Wisconsin], 6 March 1875," p. 4: "On Thursday, March 4th, Mr. Sewell Nye, an old and highly respected citizen of Dane county, died at his home on Syene Prairie, in the town of Fitchburg. Mr. Nye was well-known in this city, and in the county generally, as an early settler, and as a most worthy citizen. He was a native of the State of Maine, and removed from that State to Dane county, settled upon a farm on Syeue Prairie in 1846, where he has ever since resided, and pursued the occupation of a farmer, and been eminently successful as such. He was a true friend to the poor, and no person applied to him for aid, without receiving it. As a neighbor, he was ever kind and obliging; as a man, industrious, honest, and straight-forward in all things. Mr. Nye has usually been healthy; but for three months, his constitution had become broken, and he has been prostrated for some weeks, without any particular disease upon him, and has finally gone to his eternal rest, honored by all who knew him. He leaves no enemies, and his name will be long remembered and respected by the people of the town where he has so long resided, and so well acted the part of a true citizen. He has won high respect from a quiet, unostentatious and sincere life; never having held office beyond that of a town official. When a young man, Mr. Nye united with the Methodist Church, and has ever pursued a pure Christian life. For some years past, he has favored the Second Advent doctrine, but his Christian faith never left him, and he died in the full assurance oi a blessed future beyond the grave. In his Christian life, he has set an example worthy of imitation. Mr. Nye leaves a widow and eight children, seven sons and one daughter, who have lost a kind and indulgent husband and father. An aged mother is also left, who, in her 89th year, mourns the loss of a most excellent son. Neighbors deeply sympathise with the afflicted ones, in this time of their sore bereavement. The funeral of Mr. Nye will take place at the Methodist Church, one mile east of the Syene depot, tomorrow (Sunday) at 11 o'clock in the forenoon."
[54915] Sophia is daughter of Warren Patten (1803-1896) & Hannah Stewart (1808-1855; m. 25 March 1828 in Skowhegan, Somerset Co., ME).

[20058] David Ellis Piper wrote on the back of an old photo, Mary is daughter of "Great Grand Mother Rook - my father's Grand Mother - her parents were killed and scalped by Indians" - someone has written Witter (?) after Rook and inserted "other relatives" after the word "parents". So this photo may be of Mary Witter, mother-in-law of Mary Struble. Chris Longcore (longcore@aol.com) posted on GenForum in 2003: "IGI shows Mary (Margaret) Struble b. 26 Nov. 1808 Franklin PA d. 21 Aug. 1862. M. 17 Jan. 1828 PA to John Adam Piper. My database shows born 25 Nov. 1808 Amberson Twp. Franklin PA. Daughter of Daniel Struble and Margaret Wyker (Could also be Mary Rook 2nd wife of Daniel. I think most of his children are by his second wife, Margret Wyker (Wykor). Your Mary (Margret Struble) appears to be the first child of the second marriage. There are some rough spots yet to be straightened out with this particular family. Daniel is the son of Henrich Peter Struble and Elizabeth Langhaaar (Longcore). Heinrick Peter Struble is the son of Dietrich Struble who came from Germany in 1748. Elizabeth Langhaar is daughter of Johann Wilhelm Langhaar who came from Germany in 1749. Two Langhaar girls married two Struble men and one Langhaar man married a Struble girl, so the two families are quite interrelated. Langhaar name is anglesized to Longcore. Morris and Sussex Co., NJ were early home areas and then Dietrich moved to Mifflinburg, PA." Joyce Strock wrote on GenForum 6 Nov 2004: "There is info re Struble & John Piper in the "History of Franklin co. PA", 1887, by Warner & Beers co.--page 751-752. It indicates Mary Rook as d/o George Rook. It enumerates John & Margaret Mary Struble Piper's children also. Margaret born 26 Nov 1808 Franklin co. PA. Other sources-- She is buried Union cem, Amberson PA (Franklin co). Died 21 Aug 1862."
