He married Margaret Sweeney on 20 December 1944, in Nashua, Hillsborough, New Hampshire, United States. He lived in Mount Desert, Hancock, Maine, United States in 1930 and Bradley, Penobscot, Maine, United States in 1993. He registered for military service in 1945. He died on 25 January 2013, in Brevard, Florida, United States, at the age of 94." Alonzo's obituary: "Alonzo H. Hodgdon of Cocoa, Fla., formerly of Mt. Desert, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. Born Feb. 12, 1918, Al grew up in Hall Quarry, Mt. Desert Island. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII, fighting in the battle of Guadalcanal. He was a member of the VFW, and maintained connections with several war buddies throughout his lifetime. He had a lifelong love of dancing, especially with his wife, Glenna. Retired from the U.S. Postal Service, he was an avid reader and puzzle solver, and he could build or fix anything. Al (Buster, to his Mt. Desert family) was a hunter since boyhood, and loved climbing Acadia Mountain and lobstering on Somes Sound, Mt. Desert Island. He enjoyed golfing, and at age 90, he jumped out of a plane! He was predeceased by first wife, Margaret (Mae) Sweeney Hodgdon. Surviving was survived by his wife, Glenna (Campbell) Hodgdon; as well as a son, a daughter, four stepsons step-sons and their families; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. A service was held on top of Acadia Mountain."

[43722] Walter was a Captain in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II and received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and OLC. "The Minitor [McAllen, Texas], 13 May 1943," p. 1: "Mercedes - Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Swarner of Mercedes received word from the war department that their son. Walter, had been missing since Apr. 30. Walter is a first lieutenant in the army air corps and pilot of a B-24 Liberator. Since being advanced to pilot he has been on six missions. He is with the Ninth U. S. Army Air Force, which operates in the Middle East Area. Lieutenant Swarner was interned in Turkey for six months after being forced down there last June. He and eight other companions escaped from Turkey last December. Since then they have been with their original squadron, taking part in combat operations from the Middle East. Ned Swarner; the other son of Mr. and Mrs. Swarner, left Apr. 30 for Dallas, where he was sent to Del Monte, California, for training as a naval aviation cadet."
